Albatross, what flavour is it?

sprogger 1. November 2009, 22:38

its the break your heart it takes so long to render flavour.
over 3 million 600 thousand polygons take a long while.

Had a discussion about cloud computing on the way to a Java conference a while back. One of the things that came up was using a cloud for rendering.

I wonder if there's anyone doing that?

sprogger 1. November 2009, 22:46

Well there are render farms but these are much more effective for animation rather a single frame.

Mickeyjoe_irl 1. November 2009, 22:58

Yeah, but as I understand those farms are dedicated machines owned by the studios and a big investment.

With a cloud the machines are virtual and you only have to "rent" them on a per job basis. So it might be more suited for non-professionals like yourself.

I'm barely skimming the surface here, I don't fully understand how it all works myself :o: , but I did think at the time that it might be an idea for you.

There are a few companies that rent time on render farms you just upload your models and scenes and it returns the images.

Is one of them.

there has been some talk of developing a peer to peer render network but the problem is a system where the peers have access to the models and scenes leave them open to being ripped off.

It wouldn't concern me too much, the majority of model I built I have given away for free anyway.

Amazing, man. You are skilled and talented.
The only Java I understand is poured in cups
