Welcome To Annoying Town

, , , ...

My band dOMi's debut album, Welcome To Annoying Town, is finally done and available on iTunes and Amazon! After about a year og going in and out of studios, our producer/engineer Andreas Eide Larsen also being busy producing other music in London, we are finally able release an album we are thoroughly proud of! Packed with eleven tracks of rather relentless metal and ska inpsired punk, we're hoping this record will rock your socks off! The release concert was held on 29th of August at John Dee in Oslo and was quite the success, with a 200+ crowd creating a very positive and energetic atmosphere. My highschool buddy and ex-drummer Johannes Koch even made it out to see us, which made it all the more special. To see some pictures from the event you can have a look here! ...SO! Should you want to hear a few songs, or even purchase a copy of the album (digitally or CD) then head on over to our official website! dOMi opening for NOFX!

, , ,

You read that right!

dOMi won the right to open up for NOFX at Sentrum Scene on June 27th after competing against 40 or so other bands from all over the country.

It became NRK P3's Pyro along with a jury panel's decision, so they set up a contest and only yesterday aired the results. NOFX is probably the most influential punk band for me, them being the reason I love and play punk rock music. Needless to say we're all very stoked!

So if you haven't already scored your tickets then now is the time to do so!!!

Also worth mentioning is that our album, Welcome to Annoying Town, is scheduled for release at John Dee August 29th. Check out our website for a brand new preview site!

Rock on!! :headbang:

spzCar 2.0

, , ,

A bit late on this one, but a few weeks back I bought myself a new car! It is a 2000 BMW 318i Touring with all the bells and whistles I want, in immaculate condition

The previous owner was the foreman at the Bavaria body shop in Stavanger, so after I found the add for it I quickly jumped on the first flight to the west coast to check it out (bribing Paulo to come along by sponsoring his ticket). After seeing the car in person there was no doubt in my mind, and 8 hours later behind the wheel I parked my new car at home :D

Paulo has some pictures from the trip here.

Update!

, , , ...

I just realized it has been over 3 months since my last blog entry, and decided to write a quick update of what has been going on since my last post.

The holiday I had was very lengthy and relaxing - an excellent way for me to fully recharge my depleted batteries; A couple weeks enjoying the mediterranean sun in southern France, a trip to London visiting my brother and his family and a few weeks of partying with Steve who once again came to visit (including a cool trip to visit Leon - a mutual friend from highschool - in Copenhagen), and just relaxing in general felt very good indeed. I had been working rather hard without having much time off for a while (read: browser for Nintendo Wii) so this was needed before starting in my new job here at Aspiro AS.

Speaking of Aspiro, I have now settled in nicely here and as I write this I sit at my desk looking down at Egertorget and Stortinget subway station examining all the weird people outside. I now work on the backend for the Telenor and djuice online/mobile music shops which is very cool in many ways, especially for a musician like myself  We also went on a company wide kickoff trip to Jurmala, near Riga in Latvia - which in itself is an entire chapter of good times and drunkenness

Another cool little update is the fact that I hooked up some Apple iPhones for me and a few mates, and we were lucky enough to get in on the batches right before they started shipping with firmware 1.1.1 which is as of yet has not been successfully unlocked  While it does have its shortcomings, I am absolutely digging it like I hoped I would - the entire experience and features far outweighs the few negative issues for me personally.

When it comes to Domi, we're still going strong; rehearsing and playing shows whenever (our producer) Andreas is working in London, and recording in the studio when he is in Oslo. This on and off way of working, where we typically get in a day or two in the studio every two-three weekes, means it still will take a while before the album is ready... but good things come to those who wait. At least that is what they say

Last Day at Opera

, , ,

Today is my last day at work here at Opera Software. I will have a nice 7 week vacation before I start my new job at Aspiro, also situated here in Oslo, where I will continue my career as a software engineer.

It has been a great nearly-4 years here and although I am eager for new challenges and all that good stuff, it is still sad to leave a place I have called home for some time now. All the best to all my friends and colleagues here, maybe we'll have the pleasure of working together again in the future. I know I'll be seeing some of you wednesdays at Mucho Mas for lunch

Up, up and away!

Studio Update 4

, , , ...

The guitars are done!!! :headbang:

After some sessions and lastly four very looooong days in the studio everything instrumental is in place, and it is already sounding monstrous!

Now all we have to do is learn how to sing and record some vocals...

In general gear used in the recordings was: Dean USA Vs, ESP Mirages, Fender Tele, ESP (USA) Strat, ENGL Savage SE, Mesa Dual Rect, Bogner 4x12, Crate 4x12, Mesa 1x12, Fender combo, TS-808, Aphex Punch Factory, Silver Machine, Whammy.

Emoish

Now get back to work!

Studio Update 3

, , , ...

It has begun, and the world is changed forever.

:headbang:

Full Wii browser available!

, , , ...

Finally... After months of working overtime, working weekends, just generally working alot - we (the team working on the Wii browser here at Opera Software ASA) finally delivered a full version of the Opera web browser (aka. Internet Channel) for the Wii to Nintendo!

This time around we had time to fine tune alot of things, add new features and generally make it a better browsing experience. I was very happy to amongst other things be able to rewrite the entire toolbar which I believe made the whole product alot smoother and more useful, and also added a much needed responsiveness improvement.

So anyone with a Wii should definitely download the best TV browser ever made, remember it is free until June 2007!

Studio Update 2

, , , ...

The bass is done!

The other night we rigged down all the bass gear after finishing recording of bass tracks on the last song on the album. We got some seriously killer stuff going for all the songs, and it it already beginning to sound great even as just a rough mix of drums and bass.

Rob is happy to have a little break, and soon it is time for Frank and Magnus to step up to the plate and start the recording of guitars! Upwards and onwards... towards 11!

Be sure to check out the latest pictures!
:headbang:

Camo out, Black in

Hmmm what could this be I wonder?

Gone will be the good ol' ESP Camo - it will be headed to my fellow dOMi axeman Frankie who better take good care of her. Otherwise I would have to hurt him, and while that may be fun the ugly truth is that he is needed in the band. I could always leave his fingers intact...

So what is the deal with this MADE IN U.S.A. black beauty?

EDIT: It has arrived and can be seen in all it's glory here!

Domi in Drammen w/ Skambankt

, , ,

This friday we had a nice gig at Union Scene in Drammen, where we were set to warm the stage for Skambankt! They are a great band and have been doing very well both with video airings on TV, album sales and live shows so it we were more than happy to get everyone in the audience nice and warm!

The place was rather packed and we delivered as we always do, with punch and precision. Maybe that last one is debatable as we've been focusing on recording stuff instead of live performances lately... Regardless, we had a great time and it seemed like the audience did as well!
:headbang:

Thanks to Skambankt and everyone who showed up (special thanks to Erlend and Stig!) for a great evening, check out pictures from the event here!

Studio Update 1

, , , ...

The drums are done!

Simen did an excellent job and the recording of all 11 tracks drumwise has now been completed. Several meters of sports tape, a few gallons of blood and 5 days after we started, the final track was laid down. If this level of intensity keeps up then this album is going to hit hard and take no prisoners.
:headbang:

Good work Simen, you and your hands deserve a rest!

Check out pictures here!

This Goes To 11

, , ,

This weekend dOMi will be hitting the studio to record our first full length album, which we're calling This Goes To 11. In other words be ready to crank it up!

We'll be joining up with our buddy and producer from the Go Away single Andreas Eide to spend a few months in the studio recording an eleven track album set out to blow your head off!
:headbang:

We will be updating this blog actively with updates from the studios with gossip and pictures so stay tuned!
