Welcome To Annoying Town

, , , ...

My band dOMi's debut album, Welcome To Annoying Town, is finally done and available on iTunes and Amazon! After about a year og going in and out of studios, our producer/engineer Andreas Eide Larsen also being busy producing other music in London, we are finally able release an album we are thoroughly proud of! Packed with eleven tracks of rather relentless metal and ska inpsired punk, we're hoping this record will rock your socks off! The release concert was held on 29th of August at John Dee in Oslo and was quite the success, with a 200+ crowd creating a very positive and energetic atmosphere. My highschool buddy and ex-drummer Johannes Koch even made it out to see us, which made it all the more special. To see some pictures from the event you can have a look here! ...SO! Should you want to hear a few songs, or even purchase a copy of the album (digitally or CD) then head on over to our official website! Studio Update 4

, , , ...

The guitars are done!!! :headbang:

After some sessions and lastly four very looooong days in the studio everything instrumental is in place, and it is already sounding monstrous!

Now all we have to do is learn how to sing and record some vocals...

In general gear used in the recordings was: Dean USA Vs, ESP Mirages, Fender Tele, ESP (USA) Strat, ENGL Savage SE, Mesa Dual Rect, Bogner 4x12, Crate 4x12, Mesa 1x12, Fender combo, TS-808, Aphex Punch Factory, Silver Machine, Whammy.

Studio Update 3

, , , ...

It has begun, and the world is changed forever.

:headbang:

Studio Update 2

, , , ...

The bass is done!

The other night we rigged down all the bass gear after finishing recording of bass tracks on the last song on the album. We got some seriously killer stuff going for all the songs, and it it already beginning to sound great even as just a rough mix of drums and bass.

Rob is happy to have a little break, and soon it is time for Frank and Magnus to step up to the plate and start the recording of guitars! Upwards and onwards... towards 11!

Be sure to check out the latest pictures!
:headbang:

Studio Update 1

, , , ...

The drums are done!

Simen did an excellent job and the recording of all 11 tracks drumwise has now been completed. Several meters of sports tape, a few gallons of blood and 5 days after we started, the final track was laid down. If this level of intensity keeps up then this album is going to hit hard and take no prisoners.
:headbang:

Good work Simen, you and your hands deserve a rest!

:headbang:

We will be updating this blog actively with updates from the studios with gossip and pictures so stay tuned!

Domi back at Gamla

, , ,

Some 3 something years ago I played my first gig with dOMi at a place in Oslo called Gamla. This saturday we once again had a show set up there, along with Supermonkey and MoccaCellar.

Early on people started pouring in, and MoccaCellar kicked off the show with a kick ass set - followed by our good friends in Supermonkey who once again rocked the house severely.

By the time we went on to finish off in a brutal manner, the place was packed with a very happy, enthusiastic and generous crowd who straight off the bat gave as much of themselves as we poured out on stage. A great show, thanks to all who showed up and made it an epic evening - see you next time, ROCK ON!

Domi and SuperMonkey

, , , ...

The weekend is nearly over, and thursday and friday Domi had a couple shows.

Thursday night was with SuperMonkey and MoccaCellar, and turned out to be quite a good show. The dudes in both SM and MC are real cool dudes making for a very cool evening all round.

Friday night was in downtown Oslo with SuperMonkey, and half an hour before SM were set to go on we were quite nervous; Only 7 people had shown up so far! Thankfully people started poruing in and the atmosphere was quite good while our good friends of SM kicked some ass. Surprisingly enough, by the time we went on stage we had a very sizeable and excited crowd ready up front - and the energy the crowd gave us was channeled right back at them making for one of the best Domi shows in a long time!

We'll be hitting up Kristiansand amongst other things soon with SuperMonkey, and we can't wait! Be sure to catch us if you can!

Domi Update - Merch, DOA '06 CD and Concerts

, , , ...

Figured it would be time for another quick Domi update!

I have over the last few months been in contact with someone I met over at the ESP Message Board who showed some real great drawing talent. I approached him with the prospect of designing some stuff for Domi merchandise and he was cool enough to agree, thanks Brono! We will most likely be printing out some t-shirts when the designs are ready and there will in all likelyhood be a cheaper version with only one color print on the front in some different color shirts, and a black/white shirt version with color print on front and back.

You can see to the left the latest design for the back - a great looking Shepherd with a Domified shepherd's hook :headbang:

In other news, The Shepherd had been granted a place on this years DOA (Dean Owners of America - a world wide association despite the name) CD which will be available sometime in September. Some good exposure for us, there are already 4 Dean endorsees on this years CD, and also Dean Zelinsky himself has a careful listen to this CD!

Last but not least, here is a list of our upcoming concerts in the near future, come out and see us - the more the merrier!

UPCOMING DOMI SHOWS:
  • 07/09/06 Martins, Lillestrøm
  • 08/09/06 Amplifier, Oslo
  • 21/09/06 Østsia, Kristiansand
  • 22/09/06 Kragerø
  • 26/09/06 Studentsamfunnet Bislet, Oslo
  • 11/11/06 Gamla, Oslo

Back in Blue... Black!

, ,

Just ordered some hardware directly from the awesome people at Dean to give my Dean USA TC V some new clothes; an all black look!

They were very helpful and gave me a great price too - a total of $86.50 for everything: 1x V plate, 1x jack plate, 1x TonePros bridge, 2x pickup rings, 6x Grover tuners.

On the left is a little mockup of how the two "outfits" will look, proper Bo I tell thee!

Dean Delight

, , , ...

Ever since I got infatuated with Pantera and Dimebag Darrell (rip) when their Cowboys From Hell album came out, I have also been curious about Dean guitars. My buddy Joris, who changes guitar gear more often than I change my underwear (so roughly once a month) and hence has burnt through a massive arsenal of expensive amps and guitars, has always kept talking about how nothing really rouches his Dean. Then, not too long ago, a great offer shows up for that exact same Dean: The very limited Blueburst Custom V of which there were only 13 made. I jumped on it and, as I wrote in a previous blog entry, had my homie Steve send it to me from the USA. Let me just say, Joris you were right all along, this thing SMOKES! :eyes: So punchy, so resonant and the balance and playability is outstanding making it the best instrument I've ever played. Not to mention that it is gorgeous.

Anyways, enough rambling, on to some pictures from our last gig to see this beast it in action:

Domi Does D.D.E.

, , , ...

Yesterday, the Byfest in Lillestrøm really kicked off with DDE as headliners outside at Torvet in the middle of town. The weather was great and it was set up to be a memorable evening. Us in Domi had the pleasure of warming up the stage for this notorios Norwegian band, and at 19:45 we kicked off.
Halfway through the first song the power went out! :insane: We must have been playing a bit too loud... :headbang: Then, when power returned and before the song was done, I ended up breaking a string - luckily I had my new Dean V at hand! It instantly blew me away, as this is the first time I've played it thorugh my rig.
Rest of the gig went without a hitch, and although there wasn't really a big crowd up front, there were still quite alot of people there and I think that many of them had a great time

Check out the pictures here!

The local newspaper, Romerikes blad, had a nice article about the event (roughly translated):

Four year old Peshawa Rah from Strømmen is not sure if he will like all the music. Together with mom and dad he went to Torvet when Domi fired up their powerpunk, as if there was an F16 taking off from Kjeller.
Kai Roger Olsen on the other hand was beaming. Even though he is a man of 47, he likes youthful energy.
- I will never get sick of this. Its supposed to be loud at concerts like this, he says.
A positive attitude.
85 year old Musser Bråthen let powerpunk be powerpunk. Instead she strolled happily through Storgata.

Domi back with a vengeance

, , , ...

Those who have been following the band will know our drummer quit a while ago, and that we soon thereafter got a replacement. We've spent the last weeks getting tight again as well as writing new material, and this friday we had our first gig in quite some time.

Domi did a special act at the end of this year's Duel of Rock, and again those in the know will know that one year ago we won our very own music video at this competition. This years winner, who were also there last year, were Super Monkey who delivered a great set. They had even written a new song called "Do me" in honour of Domi (at least someone gets the pun!). We also delivered a real solid set with the crowd singing along, and finished off with Metallica's Battery as an encore. As expected Simen delivered well on the drums, Domi sounds better than ever!

All in all a great night. Congrats to our friends in Super Monkey! In related news we will be warming up for D.D.E. with a quick set the 12th of June at an outside festival in Lillestrøm. Her bli det liiiiv!

R.I.P. Deshaun Holton, aka. Proof

, ,

I just read this terrible bit of news; Deshaun Holton, also known as the rapper Proof, was shot and killed at the night club Triple C in Detroit. Deshaun was declared dead when the ambulance arrived at Conner Creek Medical Center.

I for one have always really respected Proof as an artist and rapper and he was also one of Marshall Mathers', also known as Eminem, best friends and group mate in the Detroit based hip-hop group D12 (Dirty Dozen). According to unconfirmed sources, another D12 member Rufus Johnson, aka. Bizarre, was also injured in the incident. Around new year the artist Obie Trice, another friend of Mathers', was shot and injured.

Deshaun Holton only lived to become 32 years of age.

The invasion of ENGL

, , , ...

ENGL just released some info on their brand new amp the Invader. It comes in 50, 100 and 150 watt flavors and sports an EL34 powersection and 4 independent channels. These have their own gain and EQ and should make room for alot of versatility, nothing I feel that my amp can't do though! ENGL have been working on something new the last half a year at least and this seems to be it, so I am quite curious to how it sounds.

Come to think of it, this new amp looks like the lovechild of a Powerball and a (Savage) SE, perhaps I need to sit down with my amp and have a little chat about the birds and the bees...

8 gain stages
4 EQs
2 effects loops
150 watts
Noise gate Midi Switchable
Tuner out/mute

Should be available as of September, so we'll just have to wait until then to hear what it sounds like.
