No regrets.....

Opera is when a guy gets stabbed in the back and, instead of bleeding, he sings

Tagged!!

O.k o.k..I am a little slow on the uptake here. Fluffy Bunny tagged me just before I left on my trip to Oz, so now I will reveal 5 things you didn't know about me:

1) I hate getting up early

2) I never finish the left overs eg, last of the milk, last piece of bread, last cm of jam in the jar ect (it's a sickness!)

3) I shower at least two times a day

4) I have lived in 10 different cities thus far.

5) When I was 16 I gave all my friends (13 people in total) severe food poisoning after I made brownies and brought them to school.

I am going to tag dolly and a new friend, galadriel.

Thanks fluffy!

The year ahead!

As always, I like to make a few New Year resolutions. For 2007 I have decided to do a number of things:

1) Always be positive
2) Get my Norwegian drivers license
3) Be able to run 5km in 15 minutes
4) Write once a month to my nan.
and lastly...
5) Travel to Rome

With that being said, I had a great ending to 2006. I was able to go home for four weeks and visit my family who I hadn't seen in three years. It is strange how things never change. Even after three years it felt like I hadn't been away for more than a week. I also got to meet Kim, my soon to be sister in law!! and not to mention boofey (our 9kg cat).

Anyhow, to new beginnings and experiences in 2007!

A novice in the blogosphere

When I first began this blog, I never imagined that I would be able to generate the amount of traffic that I have. Soon I will be reaching 10,000 hits on my little corner of the Web. While this number isn't a monumental number when compared to what I call MyOpera's "A" listers: Fluffy Bunny, Serbian Fighter or Joni's blogs to name a few. The number is still something a novice blogger can be proud of.

Since I started blogging my pre-conceived notions have changed radically concerning who and what makes a blogger. Over recent months I have come to believe that bloggers have developed stigma that they will find difficult to shake. When I mention this blemish I'm referring to the belief by many in the IT industry that bloggers are nothing more than self obsessed fanatics, intent on only one thing - exposure and the glorification of self.

It is sad to say that many of the IT leaders of the world today add to this, shunning blogging. If it is to hard and time pressing for even these people to use their own tools, how do they expect to sell their own creations?

For me, blogging is another creative channel where I can express thoughts and in particular connect with a world that I left four years ago. Many might call my blog a self glorification - and to an extent they may have some validity to that! But to be perfectly honest, blogging for me and many others has opened up a door that was partially closed. With the advent of television and issues of security, society has lost the previous skill of personal communication. Blogging had bridged the divide and opened up another form of interaction. If that is self glorification, I can only see society becoming richer.

The French are wise...

A wise French proverb that should be remembered!

L'avis de la femme est de peu de prix, mais qui ne le prend pas est un sot.

- The advice (opinion) of the woman is seldom much priced, but he who does not take it is stupid. A woman's advice is no great thing, but he who won't take it is a fool

Nearly faster than the Opera browser!

If you've never watched French director Claude Lelouch's short film, C'était un rendez-vous, put it on your list. It isn't every day that an oscar winning writer/director produces a short film depicting a Ferrari reaching breakneck speeds through the streets of Paris.

Some believe that the car, maybe driven by Lelouch but never confirmed, reached anywhere up to 230km/h while filming.

Steinunn the Fearsome

Your Viking Name is...
Steinunn the Fearsome

(Well, actually, that wouldn't really be your name -- since you're female, your name would be something like "Steinunn Björnsdottir". But this is the twenty-first century, and you want to be known for who you are, not for who your father was, right? Right.)

Your Viking Personality: You're a doughty, stalwart Viking, or at least you would be if you were male. You are strong and tireless, frequently shouldering burdens that would tire lesser women. You're not a "berserker", but you're among the toughest sane Vikings around.

A long sea voyage aboard a Viking longboat would be difficult for you, but you might be able to manage it. You possess some skills which other Vikings respect.

You don't have a lot of tact, so it's lucky Vikings never cared much for diplomacy. The only people who trust you completely are the ones who've never met you.

We have a winnnnnerrr!!!

I came, I saw and then.....I kicked Espens butt! After installing his "update", Espen ran out of excuses and had to face me. The next hour, he explained that he couldn't find the server. Excuses, excuses, excuses.....We all know there can only be one champion. That champion is ME!!!!!

A Man's Opinion!

Every week I read a blog by Sydney journalist, Sam de Brito. Entitled, All Men are Liars, it revolves around life from a testosterone prospective. I might not like and agree with everything that Sam chooses to write in his blog, but it always seems to make me laugh.

From his post on "The art of fighting", to "Honest Wedding Vows", Sam is blunt, honest and hilarious all at the same time. Have a look and let me know what you think!

International Reputation Conference

The 11th International Conference on Reputation, Brand, Identity & Competitiveness will be held in Oslo from May 31st to the 2nd of June, 2007. Reputation management has been a key driver behind my interest in PR, and I'm looking forward to submitting my research.

The 11th annual conference will focus on innovation and how it's used as an asset in reputation-building activities undertaken by a company. To date, my research has focused on Hydro, a Norwegian offshore producer of oil and gas. As a global company, Hydro faces a large number of challenges relating to its business operations and practices overseas. Angola is an area in particular where Hydro's business practices are facing intense media and public scrutiny. Hydro has followed the lead of numerous multinationals by adopting transparency as a proactive PR communication strategy. By doing so, companies like Hydro plan to build and strengthen their reputations.

While the field of reputation management is evolving at a steady pace, communication professionals working within the larger multinationals, like Hydro, are facing an uphill battle convincing many organizations that it is an essential communication strategy. My experience within PR supports this statement. There are still many working within organizations who believe that transparency is just another trend. That as long as a corporation publishes a CSR report or opens an orphanage, stakeholders will be satisfied that the company is a responsible corporate citizen.

A second life

There has been alot of media attention surrounding the virtual world, second life. So last Saturday, I decided to turn off my mobile and give it a go. For those of you that have been living in a rainforest or treking in Tibet the last two years, Second life is a new social site where users become "residents" and can interact just as you would (with some exceptions)in the real world.

I wouldn't class myself as addicted just yet, but my need for constant social interaction is slowly taking me there. In Second life you can look how you want, talk to whoever you want, create your dream house, and even go shopping, dancing, get married.... it's boundless.

I'll see you in the second life, or you might see me!! Stax:))
