wiccan rede and bylaws
I find all religions have great lessons and ethics to live by. Mine is Wicca and here are some I reread recently that I really think are good universal ones as well.
HONOR all as everything you do good or bad comes back to you three times.
HONOR Deity always, both as Goddess and as God. Revere the sacred spark of life, which is within you and within all things. Revere also the sacred dance of life, which is manifest as the physical world.
HONOR the Earth, Nature, and Her processes. All life is sacred, and the entire Universe is one Being, Whose soul is Gaia. All, which exists, is eternally and inseparably connected through the Spirit of the Goddess and the Dance of the God.
HONOR the Divinity within you. Do not pollute your sacredness with hatred, nor with falsehood. Be honorable, fair, and truthful in all things. Strive always to act from your Higher Self, in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.
HONOR the Divinity within others. We are all sacred, all manifestations of Deity. Therefore follow always the Wiccan Rede: "Do as you will, but harm none."

I thought this article I recently read was interesting. What do you think of yourself when you act out of character or something invokes your dark side?
Whether we want to admit it or not I think people are multi-dimensional.
"During a TV interview with Michael Parkinson last November, Madonna did not hesitate in owning up to her off-camera behaviour: ‘I am still spoiled and petulant. I have a dramatic nature and have the most spectacular tantrums.’"
"Not all of us find it so easy to recognise or admit to a ‘shadow self’ – the hidden, ‘dark’ side we wish didn’t exist. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t got one."
Is it the real you coming out or just part of your personality?
I think that is the fear that some have, that the dark or evil side of them is the real side and the 'nice and polite' side is the fake.
For me it is triggered when someone dismisses my feelings or opinions or gives me that "you are pretty, you can't possibly have a brain"
What triggers your dark side?

american gun control
I got this email from my friend and can't say I disagree although I'm sure many will.
FIREARMS REFRESHER COURSE
1. "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."~Thomas Jefferson
2. "Those who trade liberty for security have neither." ~ John Adams
3. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.
4. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
5. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.
6. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control
7. You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.
8. Know guns, know peace, know safety.
No guns, no peace, no safety.
9. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.
10. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
11. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
12. The United States Constitution (c) 1791. All Rights Reserved.
13. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.
14. What part of 'shall not be infringed' do you NOT understand?
15. Guns have only two enemies; rust and politicians.
16. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
17. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

she has to have hope
so she can cope
she has to believe that pain

is worth the gain
inside the dark tunnel
she imagines a small funnel
to make just a little light
even this small amount is a beautiful sight

I like to think about how people lived before 'modern' times and as we went to Blue Springs State Park this weekend I noticed more about this house there that I hadn't before. In fact I thought you weren't allowed to go into it but it was an entire exhibit.
So meet the Thursby house, it was built with 2 stories and then later a third story added (as if it wasn't big enough)
I wondered if the side entrance above the kitchen was for the maids to live.
check out this old time stove, so interesting i thought!
and the kitchen
heating element
I liked the porch although the manatee statue was in an odd spot
I'm not really sure what this was, maybe a pulley to help lift things we guessed

american health care, private health care
So as I was leaving work today, across the street from my work is a big corporate office for a major Health Insurance company.
I turn the usual corner and there are people on the streets with barely legible signs and a guy with a bullhorn saying something.
I put my window down but as it's a busy intersection did not hear what he was saying. One sign said something about 83% of people would pick the public option.

I couldn't tell if it was employees of the company or people protesting against the company.
So thanks to the Internet I looked it up when I got home and turns out they were protesting as health care lobbyists are spending mass amounts of money to do anything to sway government away from a Public Health Care plan.
Their protest site says:
"Health insurer lobbyists are spending nearly $700,000 day in opposition to public option health care."
'Big Insurance: Sick of It' Rally
I thought maybe they were making sensationalist claims but then I find this about our Speaker Of the House, Nancy Pelosi and how she is all the sudden 'changing' her tune a little bit.
http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/09/lobbyist-fundraiser-pelosi/I hope the public option comes out and is finally some competition for the overpriced health care system we have today in the USA.

Zorayda Castle
This weekend we went to Villa Zorayda Castle which says it is a scaled down version of the 12th century Moorish Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain.
Eccentric millionaire Franklin Smith built it in 1883 for his private home. It contains luxurious interior detail including tropical hardwood furniture and the "Sultan's Den" with a 2,300 year-old rug made from woven cat fur, it was Egyptian and believed to be originally stolen from a tomb in a pyramid.

Not only Spanish items but many Italian handcrafted furniture pieces and German as well. One item stated it took 5 men 9 years to inlay a gaming table. Lot of intricate detail on furniture, so it was interesting.
Also my favorite room was the Harem Room, which also had some Middle Eastern themes as well.
There were many beautiful tapestries as well and some Persian items too

This is a 19th century "harem swing" from Turkey
