I notice that a lot of people don't see their comments and then resubmit. This is, I think, due to the journal system not taking you to the comment page with your post on it.
This has now been fixed so that you go to the correct page afterwards.
I'll now focus on avoiding duplicates by detecting them on submit from users. I expect to have something finished within half an hour to make that work properly. Will comment to this post when it works.

We're almost absolutely certain (we've reproduced it) that we've found the cause of all our problems with MyOpera!
We're disabling the server-side process that caused this over the weekend and will analyze this on Monday to be 110% sure that we are correct!
Have a nice weekend at the MyOpera community

The new journal frontpage is made public, at least for now, to see how people respond to it, so come on -- let's have some reactions!
Search functions should work better, too.
On the top of the page, you'll notice five links -- these provide you with access to the latest posts, the posts that were commented on most recently, 10 random posts from the last two days, a list of the most visited journals, and finally a list of the journals that most people have e-mail subscribed to.
Update: Doesn't seem to work with 7.5p1 -- will look at this later or get someone to fix it in Opera.

We've added some more servers to the MyOpera solutions. We hope this will work so that we don't have any more problems with the stability of the site. It will be monitored carefully.
The limitations mentioned in the previous post are not in effect anymore.

We're getting approx. 110 requests per second right now. This is the reason why MyOpera is slow.
To stabilize the site, I've introduced new limitations on how much of the server's resources may be used at any time. This should prevent it from going down, but may mean things will take longer to display. You're simply put in queue until there are resources available to serve you.
The queue obviously requires some resources too, but not enough to make the site go down.
We'll work on improving the performance in the days to come.

I got a lot of useful feedback for local RSS feeds from users, but only for Dutch and Hungarian. That's nice, but I'd also like to have German, Spanish, Italian and/or French feeds. And from other regions too, if possible.
If you know of any, please write a comment to this journal entry with a short description and URL. It *will* be appreciated.

The skins section has been updated *and* bug fixed, and everything now works as it should. Thanks to everyone that reported problems with submitting their skin contributions!

If you know any official RSS feeds from the country you're in, please submit a comment to this journal entry.
I'm looking into expanding our
Newspanel with localized feeds for regions with enough RSS feeds to defend doing so.

Some of the main libraries used by MyOpera.com got a couple of "bug fixes" today. The reason I'm including quotes is that these aren't really fixes, but rather changes that might have an effect under heavy load.
We've also updated a lot of pages, optimized and bug-tested, and hope everything will work better today.
After one of the changes made, the load on the server immediately decreased significantly. I hope that is the good sign I've been waiting for

Didn't update with new items due to moving the database during the Christmas vacation. Forgot to update the news fetcher.
RSS feeds for journals have always worked, but they now also refresh themselves every three minutes.

These should now work. Please report any problems experienced.

I'm currently going through the site applying some minor corrections and optimizing the most used pages.
The journal has already been optimized a bit today (viewing a journal/journal lists), though I'm not sure this is easy to find out, as it was fast already

Note: Comments consist of mostly test messages

MyOpera should work well tonight. If I am not completely mistaken, I've found the reasons for the downtime we've been experiencing.
The best of wishes for the new year to everyone in the community -- let's hope it will be a year to remember, a good one.

I'm back -- not at work, but online
Had a look at the configuration today, I am now trying something new, might be trying some other things tonight, too.
Hoping it'll work excellent before next year...

Looks like things are running again. Did a complete restore of the database now. This is supposed to work. Let's see if it does.

OK, I'll have to look further into this. I'll not comment here till everything is OK. Just so that you have an indication.

Journals seem to be working. I did expect they didn't, which is very obvious from my previous post

Obviously, something *had* to go wrong on Friday. This is a curse, I guess -- every time I'm off to do something else, MyOpera suffers from problems.
Anyway, I'll monitor this situation and see if something happens again, or if this was fixed by the minor changes I introduced now.

Veeeerry tired... Looking forward to go to sleep now, but got everything done that was on today's schedule.
Tomorrow: Yet another day of bugfixes and releases
Then: Some hours more of work and I'm off for my Christmas holidays!

Have a nice evening, everyone.
