Chicago's 'lost' album lives in cyberspace

It was supposed to be their 22nd LP, presumably called 'Chicago 22' in keeping with their blase name-by-number album title approach. But somehow, it never made it out of the production factory. Apparently, the band's label (Reprise Records) didn't think it would stand much of a chance in the market because it lacked hit material. So, in its stead came the polished but forgettable 'Night and Day Big Band'. Since it was recorded in 1993, 'Stone of Sisyphus' (the final title of the album) has been in limbo, ditched forever by the band's members who were miffed by their record company's affront to their artistic integrity. Now, thanks to some madly devoted Chicago-loving cybernuts, the album is available as a free download. It's not quite the "fabulous lost album" diehard fans characterise it as, but it does have some blazing horns and songs that stand out from the icky swill the group churned out through much of the '90s.
