Beyond Summer Beach
story poetry, JMR summer 2008
Quite awake, but fatigued,
Afterall, I’ve known no sleep,
My hearing turned off and bothering me,
Ear aching still, so little I heard,
Save the cries of the gulls and so many birds…
Remember this, daughter, your earthly father planted many willows--
Grander still and only lasting, Abraham’s trees;
Plantings made by my heavenly Father,
The willows I speak of are you and me.
