StumbleUpon for Opera, Safari and Chrome

STICKY POST

Stumbleupon.com tools

, , , ...

I apologize for the lack of any releases from our team. I can inform you that I've tried to get development of the main widget started again, but failed miserably. To make up for this I started a side project known as StumbleUpon.com tools. These are tools that attempt to reduce third party sign-in interfaces and use the StumbleUpon.com website more effectively in your browser.

Bookmarklets

Bookmarklets that speed up your use of the StumbleUpon website in any browser. Click the Install bookmarklets button to install.

Opera setups

A menu and a toolbar that speed up your use of the StumbleUpon website in the Opera web browser. Click the Install setups button, tick the Menu check box and click Download setup.

CSS fix for Opera 10

If you're using Opera 10, the StumbleUpon Web Toolbar frame might not display correctly. You can set the height manually by installing this user stylesheet:

About

These tools will be developed mainly by the My Opera StumbleUpon team and new tools for Opera will be released in the future.

You can find buttons and banners of more sizes here.

We would also like a thumbs up on StumbleUpon very much. If you're a new StumbleUpon user, this is a great site to give your first thumbs up!

StumbleUpon.com Tools

for your web browser

Welcome to the official website of My Opera StumbleUpon Team!

StumbleUpon is a growing social network and some users have asked for the development of an official tool for stumbling websites without using any third-party server

A widget, planned to be released as a official StumbleUpon add-on for Opera has been under development for a while. Sadly, development has come to a halt, and all attempts at getting development started again have failed.

But to make up for this, key members of the team started a side project known as the StumbleUpon.com Tools. These are unofficial tools for various browsers like Opera, Chrome and Safari. Click the button on the right to install them.

For feedback, problems and questions, you are welcome to try our Technical Support. If you'd like to join development, please create an account and contribute in the forums.

About My Opera StumbleUpon Team

Introduction

Inspired by the growing number of requests of StumbleUpon Social Network, Melo Bichuetti ‎and DrLaunch™ started a research to develop a tool that soon would receive both ‎endorsement from Opera Software ASA and StumbleUpon, helping their customers enjoy ‎the best of both worlds.‎

The first attempt was a working-in-progress menu, which Melo Bichuetti created under the ‎Creative Commons GPL license and released only for a short time and testing purposes. Immediately after the great feedback from equally users and developers, a team from My ‎Opera Community opened a collaborative project named My Opera StumbleUpon Team.‎

Following Opera tradition in safety and standard measures, the team assigned a project that ‎would use a native technology created by Opera Software ASA, one widget, which later our ‎product engineer, Simon Houston, named as My Opera StumbleUpon Widget.‎

Working on an Opera widget demanded time and experience, and thanks to our developers, ‎you will experience the most secure way to stumble ever.‎

The team had the opportunity to collaborate in an engine, which ownership and proprietary ‎license belongs to Opera Software ASA that not only is safer, faster, improved, and reliable ‎than StumbleUpon original engine, but also will bring the best StumbleUpon experience ever ‎for you Opera Web Browser user.‎

The team

My Opera StumbleUpon Widget is the result of the countless hours of work by My ‎Opera StumbleUpon Team's developers:
  • Simon Houston - ‎product engineer
  • Eser Aygün
  • James Howat - lead developer in charge
  • DrLaunch™ - setup and bookmarklet developer
  • Behind the scenes, handling business ‎strategy and day-to-day affairs:
  • DrLaunch™
  • Our web site and graphic design are the hard work of My Opera StumbleUpon web ‎team:
  • Matt Cox
  • DrLaunch™
  • Adjusting the user interface:
  • Jan Henrik Helmers - Graphics Designer at Opera Software
  • My Opera StumbleUpon Widget questions are dutifully answered by My Opera ‎StumbleUpon technical support:
  • Alex Jonsson
  • João Eiras
  • Former members

In addition, the following individuals have worked on the My Opera StumbleUpon ‎Team in the past but have since moved on to other projects:
  • Daniel Rotter
  • M. Bichuetti
  • Contributors

Many have provided significant code ‎and many bug fixes, ideas, research to the project as well. Those listed below have ‎either written code, which is distributed with every version of our widget, have ‎identified serious bugs in the code, or both:
  • John Roberts - OpenDNS VP of Product
  • Partners

OpenDNS donated the phishing API filter used on our widget.

    License

My Opera StumbleUpon Widget and relatives side-projects were donated to Opera Software ASA.

    StumbleUpon.com Tools

    Version 0.2.12, All browsers

The release of version 0.2 added channel surf for photos, videos and news. But due to missing quality assurance, they actually didn't work. Revision 12 of the menu, toolbar and bookmarklets makes these buttons work and is a recommended update.

Check if you're using the latest version by clicking StumbleUpon -> Tools. Remember the version number and click to check the download page for updates.

    Version 0.2, All browsers

The My Opera StumbleUpon Team are pleased to announce that we've completed version 0.2 of our StumbleUpon tools. The new version integrates more features from the StumbleUpon.com website.

    Changelog
    • Renamed Stumble It! to Rate it
    • Added Reviews and a Share button
    • You can now channel surf through photos, videos and news.
    • Added more items to the menu
    Roadmap

The next release will include a additional toolbar for channel surfing and StumbleThru. We're planning to make a User JavaScript with better StumbleUpon website integration. But we need a leading JavaScript developer. If you're up to the task, state your interest in the forums.

We're using Google Code as a SVN. You can check out the project page here. While I'm leading the menu, toolbar, bookmarklet and CSS development, I'd like more developers to join me in development of these tools and related tools like user JavaScripts and browser add-ons. The SVN uses Google Accounts. Send me a private message containing the e-mail address you're using in your Google account if you'd like write access to the SVN.
