Welcome to the official website of My Opera StumbleUpon Team!

StumbleUpon is a growing social network and some users have asked for the development of an official tool for stumbling websites without using any third-party server

A widget, planned to be released as a official StumbleUpon add-on for Opera has been under development for a while. Sadly, development has come to a halt, and all attempts at getting development started again have failed.

But to make up for this, key members of the team started a side project known as the StumbleUpon.com Tools. These are unofficial tools for various browsers like Opera, Chrome and Safari. Click the button on the right to install them.

For feedback, problems and questions, you are welcome to try our Technical Support. If you'd like to join development, please create an account and contribute in the forums.

StumbleUpon has hundred thousands of addicts and they will not migrate to Opera until they can use it with Opera. I am one of them, Opera is a very cool browser, I would definitely migrate to Opare if it had the StumbleUpon toolbar. You will be amazed how many people will download your toolbar when it's finished. Stumblers very well know that Opera is an excellent browser but they just won't use a browser without SU toolbar.

drlaunch 10. August 2007, 11:13

I guess Opera Software and we have a lot to look forward to then. :D

lpullar39 22. August 2007, 02:02

This is the most awesome news I have read in a long time. I love stumble upon on foxfire. I even tried to get to download on Opera once before. So cool I am psyched!!

geeneeyes 28. August 2007, 17:29

wow.. oh my god! You couldnt have made me more happy unless informed that Opera introduced an API !!

Thanks.. I have sacrificed a lot for Opera and this has made amends!

lpullar39 1. September 2007, 02:46

I have been using stumble upon for a year now and I love it. one its fun, and you meet really great people with the same interest as you. and are able to talk and share. some of the sites are so funny, and others are really good things to help and support the things in life that you wouldn't other wise have ever seen. I cant wait until Opera has this capability. Thank you.

mattpaul 26. October 2007, 13:25

Yes! Also very excited to see this happening. Is a beta available? I could've sworn I had seen screenshots somewhere? And what about the StumbleUpon menu, etc.

masterpookie 10. November 2007, 21:57

I want to get rid of FX when will SU be avaliable for opera?

drlaunch 11. November 2007, 00:04

We've planned to release it at the same time as Opera 9.5 final.

lpullar39 20. November 2007, 15:38

So when is the big DATE to be? Looking forward to not only getting stumble upon, but the Opera 9.5 final. But Just wondering when that may be.

drlaunch 20. November 2007, 16:41

I have no idea but I have a hunch it's very soon.

fearphage 27. January 2008, 18:33

Is this released? Is this project related to this site?

drlaunch 12. February 2008, 17:58

The creator of that addon started making it after he found our original unfinished menu on another site which hadn't attributed it correctly. We can't be sure if he has done any copyright infringement.
We also had trouble with that guy in our forums when they still were open.

joeluso 26. February 2008, 10:53

I am so so so fedup with firefox but I can't change until stumbleupon is supported by opera. Please get it out asap, before I succumb to the dreaded :yikes: IE...

bomath 24. March 2008, 21:59

Trouble or not with "that guy", at least he's done a beautiful job. I have the buttons that work; can't wait for an "official" update thou.

higherlogic 21. April 2008, 03:09

>> The creator of that addon started making it after he found our original unfinished menu on another site which hadn't attributed it correctly. We can't be sure if he has done any copyright infringement.

Close. I started looking for a StumbleUpon toolbar for Opera. Didn't find one. I found a "menu" that someone had made that replicated a few features, but the main problem with it was that it didn't actually stumble! Sure, it stumbled other users' profiles, but that's not what people use SU for.

So I decided to make Opera Stumbler. Took about a day to get the site up and another day to get the menu finished.

I got kicked off the forums because of exactly what you're doing now. Saying I stole this, that it's copyright infringment, etc. You all couldn't figure out how I knew how to replicate the SU features, even after I told you it was as simple as using an HTTPD sniffer and analyzing the header requests. I even posted my notes that I made for all of the functions on there!

Like I said before, it took about a day to do it. The hardest part was making the menu for Opera because I'd never made a menu before.

Opera Stumbler's now available in 4 languages, has close to 6k unique users, and serves over 15k stumbles a day.

Best of luck to you.

netean 21. June 2008, 22:52

ok It's been nearly a year and still no release.

c'mon.. How hard can it be? Higherlogic knocked up something in a day or two and yet an official release has been nearly a year.

come on... some updates would be really useful.

RakelArkade 8. July 2008, 13:16

What's the holdup?
Do you alredy have anything? why not?

9.5 is released. This was promissed to be at the same time.
I'm using that guy's addon right now, and it works; but I want it without the middleman.

CrossKel 19. July 2008, 20:25

Indeed. What is the holdup?

The only reason I use Firefox is for StumbleUpon. Otherwise, I push it aside and use Opera. HigherLogic has his own (operastumbler) but I'd rather have something official.

Is there any info at all about this? Or has it become a dead project?

drlaunch 21. July 2008, 20:23

We have had a minor halt in the development. I am however working to gather the team and resume development.

FireXtol 25. July 2008, 07:42

Can't wait for this!

allenskd 4. August 2008, 04:28

Hello, noticed it's been a year already, any updates on this? Searched the widget page but nothing about stumbleupon except operastumbler but somehow their delivery site is pretty much dead for some reason.

Cheers!

Livewire242 18. October 2008, 21:07

Please just admit that nothing is ever going to be done, and close up this page. Someone else can write the widget. Better a half-assed working widget than vapourware.

drlaunch 18. October 2008, 22:05

No one are forcing you to visit this page. And the half-assed widgets you're talking about are already out there.

We have a working prototype on a server. We just need a developer to clean it up and release it.

WinWhistler 30. October 2008, 08:05

I've read this entire page. Not once have you at least apologized to these people waiting over a year for something you promised.

Your lack of updates on the project and the fact that you didn't even mention any delays at all is horrible.

I, for one, would love a StumbleUpon toolbar and I applaud the fact that you accepted the project, but the fact that you haven't even shown a screenshot of a working toolbar is... It's bad.

Someone managed to put up a toolbar in a couple of days, what reason could you possibly have to have us wait for well over a year without so much as a beta test?

As you wish, http://www.stumbleupon.com/toolbar/

WinWhistler 1. November 2008, 16:07

*sigh*

Let me try again since apparently that's all you got.

I would like to have a StumbleUpon toolbar that's native to Opera and allows me to login to my StumbleUpon account and have my personal preferences as opposed to a generic toolbar that stumbles a random set of sites and e-mails them to me if I like them.

WinWhistler 1. November 2008, 16:08

Nevermind, I'll just stick to Firefox and Konqueror.

Thanks.

jaqdas 23. November 2008, 22:13

Guys,

One thing;
Go for this one: http://www.operastumbler.com/
This would ease your pain..

geeneeyes 22. December 2008, 07:43

i must say, this project seems dead and nobody cares...
Forget apologizing, the project team looks unconcerned about the Opera fans from its attitude

drlaunch 22. December 2008, 12:24

Unconcerned? Those team members who care are having an impossible task reviving the project. I myself know, because I've failed every time I try.

geeneeyes 2. January 2009, 15:45

well drlaunch.. maybe its best you suspend this blog, so that people dont get disappointed after their expectations are not met.. and i didnt mean to sound so pissed.. wish you all a happy year

Hades32 23. February 2009, 13:39

Hello!

How is the development going? Is this project even alive?

If you can't revive the project, why not just release the unfinished project and let the community do th rest?
I guess it would only be a couple of days....

drlaunch 23. February 2009, 18:37

The problem is that the active members of the team don't have access to the project files.

Seeing that the project development has come to a complete halt, and seemingly no development will be done by the team members within the foreseeable future, making it a community developed project might be more beneficial after all.

The project itself was supposed to be community maintained from the start but due to abuse of the forums and suspicion in the project management, the project became maintained by the current team only.

I really wish I could make the project actively developed again, but I can't get access to the project files.

Hades32 24. February 2009, 20:25

I'm very sorry to hear this. Too many great projects end up like this.

May I ask WHO has the project files?

drlaunch 24. February 2009, 21:50

One of the team members. I've tried PM-ing him but there's no response. I'd prefer not to say more if you understand what I mean.

Hades32 24. February 2009, 22:16

Of course. Actually I've been in a similar position once...

Let us know if you get on him.

Thanks very much for your efforts!

drlaunch 8. March 2009, 22:25

StumbleUpon.com Tools

for your web browser

We've released some tools as a side project. More tools will be added later.

jaqdas 25. March 2009, 18:30

Hi there drlaunch,

Sorry to say but this seems to be a dead-link :frown:
I really would like to have the tool and see what we can do on it.

Thanks,
Jq

drlaunch 25. March 2009, 19:34

There. Fixed.
