苏州 is the name of the city in Chinese, and Suzhou is the pinyin of 苏州, Soochow is the old spell of Suzhou, just link Peking to Beijing, Tsingdao to Qingdao.
As Jianshuo Wang mentioned at Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, here is the three names(Suzhou, Soochow, 苏州) compare in Google Trends:
There are there point interested me:
- Suzhou is the internaltional name of the city, I shouldn't use the old= name(Soochow) to emphasize historic.
- Suzhou city is more searched in Singapore, because of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park(SIP).
- Soochow, the old spell for 东吴, is more searched in Taiwan. I always think Taiwan inherits more Chinese tradition culture than Mainland. This result proofs it.
