Maudlin ruminations of a mind bit by wanderlust.

The Aftermath

, , ,

My exams are over. I did well in almost all of them, except for Electrical Engineering. Blech.

Anyway, now I'm int he market for a new PC, so if any of you have some blockbuster ideas about that, please drop me a line. One specific worry I have is that a particular motherboard that I have been after for some time...simply isn't available. I can't find it anywhere. (In case you're wondering, it's GA-965P-DQ6. There, are you happy now?)

My college reopens on the fourth of july, prosaic for the freedom it gives me. </sarcasm>

On the happier side, I'm back to doing the things I like, like Python and sleeping. I may even get my own webspace. That'll be cool.

Without a compass.

Do you ever get that feeling where one moment you feel you're in control of everything and the next moment you find out that something has gone horribly wrong? That's exactly what happened to me during my Technical Drawing Exam. I went in, prepared to draw the wierdest shapes I had never seen, and then - bam - no compass. I am possibly the first to complete the exam without using a compass the entire time. The circles I drew by hand came off pretty well, although I had to take 16 points to get a decent curve.

More when I finish the last one.

Variety

, , , ...

My exams start tomorrow, and end on the 23rd of May. An era will have ended, as I will no longer be subjected to Physics and Chemistry after these exams. Anything I do in these subjects after this will be my own folly.

In other news, I was recently keeping up with the French Presidential elections. I was backing Segolene Royal (Inconsequential, since I can't vote, but still), for the same reason why many people voted for her -- Because I didn't like the other alternative. Being a student, I can sympathize with the student riots in 2005, and can't see my way to elect a president who did tantamount to incite it. Granted, I know almost nothing about any of these issues, but still this is what my gut feeling says.

The Python posts are on hold, because my exam on C is tomorrow. I don't like C. One quote compares a C program to a dance on a waxed dancefloor holding knives. That's pretty much how I feel. In C, you need to think about what you can do practically, and then write a program. In Python, you write a program, with the confidence that you can make it work.

Australia won the World Cup, and the Sri Lankans are in uproar about Adam Gilchrist's keeping a squash ball in his glove. I don't know what to say.

Stark Realization

AIEEE gives you the facts and asks you to interpret those facts and make intelligent statements (To a certain extent).

TNPCEE gives you nothing and asks you for those facts...

A Recollection...

The IIT JEE (Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Exam) wasn't as horrible as I thought, although things might have gone better.

05:00
Big day ahead, get groggily out of bed and get mentally ready for 6 hours of examination.

06:30
Get to the examination center. Hell, I've never been out of the house so early before...and wait there's more! The center is already crowded! There must've been at least 100 people there!

07:00
Some of my friends get there. Talk about anything other than the first exam, which happens to be Physics.

08:00
Start the Physics exam. The room is dumpy. It's so old it reeks. Crows are flying through the rafters. Luckily there's nobody on either side of me and a fan right above. Heaven! At least I won't be sweating.

The exam itself wasn't so hard.

10:00
Get out of the Exam Hall. Maths isn't until 12:00. What on earth am I going to do until then? Sleep, I s'pose.

11:00
Can't find a bathroom. Then it strikes, I'm looking for a men's bathroom in a Women's college. WTF? How can they expect us to write the exam?

12:00
Start Maths. All hell breaks loose. Normally I'm good at maths. Well maybe it's a bit more than that. I've always been more confident in maths than physics, but this paper was ridiculous. It had no meaning! There was no point to it! I really don't want to say anything more, it's making me sick.

14:00
Get out of Maths, feeling a bit down. That didn't go as I would have liked. At least they're letting us finish the day on a high note. Still got 2 hours to go to the last exam of the day -- Chemistry.

16:00
Having killed 2 hours successfully, enter the hall for the last time. Open the question booklet -- bliss! Everything makes sense! I know everything! -- Wonderful feeling.
Finish the paper in 45 minutes. Check my answers for 30 minutes. Goof off the remaining 45.

18:00
Walk out. I've sat through 6 hours of examination in 1 day, a bit less than what's normal in one week.

Done!

I am officially out of school. Yep, I finished in style by completing a 3 hour Computer Science Paper in 1.5 Hours and slept the other half of the time. It makes even less sense that I studied only for the lesser part of yesterday. What a waste of time. My results should be out sometime in the middle of the hols but I still have a few other things to do.

I finally finished my Chemistry final!! Only one more exam to go and that's a walk in the park. It's sad that we're given 6 days to study for it though, I'm going to get really bored. Lucky bio buggers get to sleep peacefully while us CS students have to sweat it out for another week.

Anyway,
Ta.
