Eating al fresco

,

Sunday yesterday, we had a very nice day. It was sunny and reasonably hot without being unpleasantly hot.

After having gone to the church, it Dim and I decided to lunch al fresco.

We went to a gastro-pub in B'ham city centre, and had drinks and sandwich.

Weirdly this pub sells beer in a half pint glass, or 2 or 4 pints pitcher. It is why Dim had only a half pint.

Mine is usual diet coke.

British people do not eat al fresco as often as the people in the Continent, but on rare nice summer days they do with great pleasure.

Here is the sandwich. As we had already eaten a bit in the church, we had only one plate and shared it.

It is difficult see in this photo, but it was quite big in quantity. There is no way I could eat the whole plate, even when I am hungry.

Bread was fresh, and the tuna mayo and spring onion filling was successful. Chips also were well made, even though frozen variety.

It was a nice lazy afternoon.

How nice!! You must have had an awesome Sunday!!

Here, usually, I dine al fresco too but that's only because most places only allow smoking outdoors!! p:

Sayeed,

Tuna sandwich is often soggy, but this one was freshly made, so it wasn't.

Do the people in India eat often sandwich? My impression is that you people have better snack to eat.

Clarence,

Not really carefree; just I don't like writing about my worries here.

Anyway, people here don't like spend too much time on work. Workaholic is perceived as something negative, but at the same time, not as lazy as some of the nations (I hesitate to name...), and many have workers' ethics. I like the balance of work and private life in the UK.

Sugar,

Now in England, it is prohibited to smoke even outdoor, if it is close to the entrance of building. I did see people smoking here, but I am sure it is illegal.

well we do have good snacks in India for sure. Thing is I have this hankering for continental food more often than not.

Kayoko 15. August 2007, 18:29

But, India is more continent than this insular Great Britain! :D

Sayeed 15. August 2007, 18:33

He he....I thought about what you said abou Indian snacks. I think the thing about them is that they are designed more from a standing and eating standpoint. People don't really linger over Indian snacks. Doesn't make them any less tasty or anything, just that the approach to them is a bit different!!!

Kayoko 15. August 2007, 19:09

Well, telling the truth, sandwich can be a snack but also a meal in itself, depending on how it is made and how much you eat. May be you don't have this cafe culture. Really in Britain, people have it much less than in the continental Latin Europe, or in Greece.

Sayeed 15. August 2007, 19:13

True...I guess the cafe culture is whats missing....

Kayoko 16. August 2007, 16:06

Why is it? Do you think you can introduce it? Or, is there any reason that does not permit people enjoying cafe' culture?

Neither in Japan cafe culture is particularly present. I would guess it is partly because the people don't like the idea of idleness, and partly because people don't like to be observed by passers-by while they are eating.

Sayeed 16. August 2007, 16:33

I guess it might be due to the fact that India is a very crowded coutry and people are in a hurry. Also, because if you are going to be putting up a cafe it needs to be in a sort-of tranquil area which you'd be hard pressed to find here. The weather too might be a factor. Either too hot, too humid or too cold!!!

Kayoko 17. August 2007, 16:03

But if you try really really hard... :D

I think, however, in near future, there will be European style cafe's for well-off people, as India is getting rapidly richer. With big air-conditionner, or/and heater.

Sayeed 17. August 2007, 16:21

Ha ha...there are places for sure....and with the prices!!! Most places though tend to be in old houses where the garden has been converted into a seating area so people can laze around.....

Esther-Sugar Winx 18. August 2007, 08:05

Illegally smoking...

Kayoko 18. August 2007, 18:13

Sayeed,

Sounds attractive.
