Welsh Beef

, ,

The major objective of our travel to Wales last week was to find good food. We did eat nice things there, but we also bought and brought back goodies. This is one of them.

Welsh beef sirloin steak. Does not it look nice?

I fell in love once I saw it and asked butcher to give me a piece.

Surprisingly this fairly big chank costed only £3.50.

Returned home, I cooked it as simple steak.

The meat did not shrink at all during the cooking, and it was as large as before cooking. This does not happen when I buy cheap cuts from supermarket (and that is why I don't buy cheap meat from supermarkets  ).

The first thing that struck me was its softness. It did not need any effort to chew, and just meaty juice came out of the bite.

It was so so nice. I need to go back to buy it again when I happen to be in that part of Wales!

These are the animals that provided us the meat. Thank you all!

Mmmm mmmm...that looks tasty indeed. Indian cuisine doesn't really do steaks although leg of lamb is on most upmarket menus.

If you'll excuse me I'm off to look for a cow....

Indeed, one of the major quibbles that the white British people have against the Indian cuisine -- which is very very popular here -- is that the meat is often too well-done!

Cow? Do you need milk? p:

He he....as I was telling a friend about my thoughts on going 100% vegetarian. I wouldn't mind if we prepared our vegetables like the Chinese, Japanese or Koreans (as a small example) but unfortunately, we mostly boil everything down to a pulp which is not very appealing to me. Much better when crisp!!!

Speaking of cows, we used to keep a few when we liveed in my Grandma's house. Every morning we'd milk them and drink the milk straight up. No boiling!!! Louis Pasteur be damned!!!

I'd still like a nice steak though.....Sigh....

Hi Sayeed,

Here people often say if we are in south india, we don't scarsely feel the need to eat meat as the veggie dishes are so plenty, various and delicious. Well, evidently you are not in this category. :D I would not be in this category either, as Indian vegetarian dishes are often too oily for me.

About milk, as far as I understand, if you drink the milk straight way the cow, it is ok, as the germs don't have time to develop themselves in the milk. If you want to keep it, it needed to be boiled to kill the germ.

Can't you buy nice steak meat in where you live?
