why did not you come when I called you?
Where were you when I needed you so much?
Today I stumbled and fell down in the street. I called you. You passed me by and pretended you did not see me.
I felt myself so lonely, so abandoned. How come you never see me. I am here. I am right here. You just have to look around.
I am asking for love. That's it.Is it so difficult to give a little bit of love to me?

to all homeless and neglected children.

at work

I am suppposed to be working at the moment but there is no work to do in the office. therefore, I decided to write a new post but I don't know what to write about. this is the first week of me working at this possition. I am a bit tired. Oh by the way, the day before yesterday our office was flooded. A water tube that lies in the attic right above our office broke down. You can imagine the mess: the ceiling, walls and the carpet on the floor were all wet. but everything is ok now.

The Inependence Day of Georgia

It is 1:16 a.m. in Georgia, which means that a very important day for Georgians has come. Today is the independence day of Georgia. We reinstated independence from the Russian Empire in 1918 and proclamed independence on the 26th of May, Wednesday, late afternoon. The meeting of Georgian authorities was held in the residence of the Russian Governor of the South Caucasus. The declaration of independence was encouraged by Germany, which promised Georgia to assist in its first years of sovereignty. However, there were many internal and external problems that prevented Georgia to live in stable and peaceful situation.

Unfortunately, after 3 years of having become independent, the Soviet army occupied the territory of Georgia alleging that the Georgian state was intimidating Georgian working class and the Soviet army wanted to protect them. Though, Soviet Russia was trying to justify its brutal act of infringement the independence of Georgia by calling on some social ideals and principles, it was obvious that new forces in Russia were trying to concur Georgia for the SECOND time. On the 25th of February, 1921 so called Red Army concured Georgia and declared it a soviet country. The vulnerable Republic of Georgia and its government was unable to protect its rights.Though, there were some battles but they were useless as the Soviet army was much stronger than new born national army of Georgia. There was no help from the international community as well which was preocuppied by the WW1.

After "reddening" Georgia, the Soviet Russia started persecuting people who fought against them. The majority of Georgian aristocrats was either eliminated or sent into an exile. Some saved their lives by fleaing from Georgia. 99 % of them did not see their motherland in their lives and died in Emigration. The people who stayed in Georgia started preparing the uprising which took place in 1924. The uprising was suppressed. This caused another wave of persecutions.

Noe Ramishvili, the first leader of the Democratic Republic of Georgia was assassinated by a Bolshevik spy in Paris in 1930. The head of the government of independent Georgia was Noe Zhordania. He escaped from the country with the government in 1921 when the Soviet army started to take up the control over the whole country. He is buried in France. The government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia which was elected by the Georgian people through direct and equal elections did not recognition the soviet government and refused to transmit its rights and obligations to the Communists, but some historians think that their flea from the country has no justification.

Georgia was a part of the USSR for 70 years until it decided to leave Union and proclame independence. Georgia officially declared independence on the 9th of April,1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Round Table in the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia

Today is the Holocaust day. The day when Jewish people recall and pay tribute to those Jews that were killed during the World War II. The main motto of this day is "remember". 6 million Jews were killed during WW2. Georgia is among those countries where Jews have never been persecuted. Jews live in Georgia for 26 centuries and there have been rarely any examples of untisemitism during this period.

The Office of the Public Defender of Georgia organized round table in memory of this terrible day. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Israel to Georgia, the President's Adviser on Ethnic Minority Issues, the representatives of various ethnic minorities and NGOs. I was representing my organization that works on human rights related problems including the problems regarding the freedom of religion.

The speakers were the Ambassador of Israel to Georgia and the representative of the Public Defender's Office.

I feel sorry that Jewish people die in the conflict zone in the Middle East up to now.

The conference was very intersting. I learned many new things and saw several governmental autorities in person.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter. The orthodox Christians celebrate the most important holiday of the year: the resurection of our Lord. The service started in the Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral at Easter eve at 11 p.m. and lasted the whole night. Everyone was very happy and happiness will accompany each of us during the whole week. Happy Easeter once again.

Endless Conflict on the Territory of My Country( which frustrates me a lot)

Everything started around 20 years ago when Georgia decided to declare independence from the Soviet Union. The Soviet government authorities were trying their best to maintain the integrity of the USSR but it was impossible as striving for independence was great among the soviet nations. The Russian authorities tried to rouse confilict in differnet parts of the former USSR. Georgia was one of the countries where Russia managed to create two conflict zones. Of course, the conflict did not come up suddenly, out of blue. It was the outcome of the USSR state policy of almost 100 years. Unfortuately, Abkhazians that are caucasians and the relatives of Georgians were convinced that we were their enemies, the enemies that wished their death, but they were wrong. I regret that we, Georians did not try more to solve this conflic in a peaceful way. Consequently, the wars started in Abkhazia and also in Tskhinvali Region( so called South Ossetia). We lost both wars. It was the result of Russian authorities' hard efford and unorganized and sometimes stupid actions of Georgian government.

Years pass and the conflicts are still not settled. These wars created hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people. They lost their homes, their lives were ruined.

And now the precedent of Kosovo. This precedent will sparkle many new conflicts all over the world. Georgia faces the threat that its unrecognized rebellious parts might receive international recognision. It seems to me that this nightmare will never end and I do not know what is the way out of this situation.

Sorry for being too pesimistic.

Palm Sunday

Happy Palm Sunday. This is an important holiday for the Orthodox. In a week we celebrate the most important holiday for the Orthodox Christians: Easter. Today I attended the mass in Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral. It was amaising, no not amaising it was...I can't even express the feeling with words.

Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral is the largest church in Georgia and one of the largest ones in orthodox world. I stepped the church threshold at 11:30 or somewhere around. There were many people in the church. One could hear wonderful Georgian church songs there. The tunes were spreading all over the place. And what is the most important, Catholicos Patriarch His Holyness and Beattitude Ilia II was holding service.Unfortunately I was unable to see him but I heard his vioce. I and my friends bought willow-branches. They were sanctified. One of the churches endowed the icon of St. George to the cathedral. This is very common for Georgian orthodox church. The process was wonderful and difficult to discribe with words.

The weather was fine. I returned from the mass filled with new energy.
