    Ventabren has developed considerably over the last few years and has graduated from being a small Provençal village to become a vast residential municipality, with new houses mushrooming and extending below the village on to the plains which surround it.

    Italy won the World Cup 2006 final on penalties after a dramatic final destined to be remembered for the sensational sending off for French captain Zinedine Zidane in his farewell match.

    For only the second time in the history of the tournament, the sport's greatest prize was settled by spot-kicks after both teams had finished extra-time deadlocked at 1-1.

    France captain Zinedine Zidane has won the Golden Ball award for the World Cup's best player, despite his red card in Sunday's defeat to Italy in the final. Zidane polled 2012 points in the vote by journalists covering the tournament, ahead of Italian Fabio Cannavaro (1977 points) and Andrea Pirlo (715 points).
