Every Muslim has a duty to learn Quran, so that he/she can find the right way to live life. Those who are more passionate about the message of Almighty, try to memorize it. This writing gives a detail of ways in which Quran can be memorized, and the warnings for those who forget it.
Ways of Memorizing Quran:
The way of memorizing Quran varies from person to person. Some, read two or three aayahs, and keep on repeating them until they have memorized them, while others go for the one-eighth of a juz, and keep on repeating it, until they have fully memorized it.
However, the key lies in making this memorization permanent in your mind. For this purpose, one should revise the verses memorized on every following morning, before memorizing the next verses. This way the verses remain fresh in your mind, and you can continue, from the aayah where you left, with the same fluency.
Warnings for the Forgetter:
Islam is the religion of understanding and relaxation. As Allah Almighty says in Quran:
“Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope” [Al-Baqarah 2:286]
The interpretation of ayah can be made that, Allah does not impose some person with sin or anything else right away; instead Almighty burdens a person according to what he can bear. Therefore, if a person forgets the memorized parts of Quran due to some natural reason, such as not finding time because of social and family responsibilities, then the person in this case is not guilty of committing a sin.
On the other hand, if a person forgets the memorized aayahs, simply due to neglect then he is guilty of committing sin, as per the say of Imaam Ahmad. Therefore, a person who turns away from Quran, and forgets what he memorized of it, is regarded as a sinner.
In a nutshell, the memorization of Quran shows the level of devotion and love, which a Muslim has for the message of Almighty Allah. However, once memorized, a person should try to retain the verses in his mind, and not be forgetful of them.
