"Thank you" (ASL - American Sign Language)

The sign for "thank you" is made by starting with the fingers of your dominant hand near your lips. Your hand should be a "flat hand." Move your hand forward and a bit down in the direction of the person you are thanking. Smile (so they'll know you mean it).

Memory aid: Imagine blowing a kiss to the person you are thanking. (Don't pucker up -- unless you'd like to get to know him better.)

The sign "THANK YOU" can also be interpreted to mean "good." (Especially if you are holding a sandwich in one hand.)

Student: I saw a Deaf person do this sign with two hands. Does that mean something different?

Dr. Bill: If you use two hands with this sign it means you are "very" grateful. (Or perhaps you are signing to a large audience.)

Interesting, do you sign mainly in words, or do you spell out words? I know nothing about this as you can probably guess bigsmile

zrafatdjmd1 Saturday, October 8, 2011 2:52:21 AM

How many languages do you manage? An well, I don't care.

Sing Language is of course a visual system like hieroglyph but when you don't know a specific sign -as the case of the proper or personal name/noun, you do use the Sign alphabet. The same for the numbers.

So you will spell every letter or number one by one.

It is natural that deaf person always laugh twice wink
I think sign language is so old. It might be emerged before the spoken language came in to existence! And it was the similar on every corner of the world! That is so uniform divine magic of the human beings! Even sign language is still prevailing with animals and birds, too !

Abdulaziz Noratabdulaziznorat Saturday, October 8, 2011 2:54:19 PM

When we are discussing in group, it is the best manner to avoid slang language and Phrase and other controversial language! It may be consider as a insulting attitude of some other friends who are participating in discussion !

zrafatdjmd1 Saturday, October 8, 2011 2:55:11 PM

Thanks for your comment Aziz. Good thing seeing you here smile

I had above stated that sign language has no bar for the region
or any color, cast or place! It is so natural phenomena! Even child has no any language when it was born or after that period, till it starts to speak! A baby always uses a sign language! First its sign is to cry for every thing!

zrafatdjmd1 Saturday, October 8, 2011 3:09:58 PM

No Aziz... this Sing Language is a specific Language even deaf children have to learn. It isn't a natural language instead. o Mummy have to teach her beloved deaf baby heart heart

Excuse me AzizDear, if they're true friends that it's beareable, just relax and trust in your friends. If real friends they never have such an intention -offending I mean.

Slang and saying are funny -sometimes of course there will be exceptions, due to they're a part of any culture I think.

I don't care slang from my friends while they were proper bigsmile

Abdulaziz Noratabdulaziznorat Saturday, October 8, 2011 3:58:56 PM

Exactly you are true,that..
No Aziz... "this Sing Language is a specific Language even deaf children have to learn. It isn't a natural language instead"
But, if you will go in grass root level and search about this specific language, You will find the base of natural sign language! Than no one can deny !Specially created this language for dumb ,blind and deaf! Like, if some one who is sane or un sane, previous person who was on earth when the real language and expression of language was not in present, they can use the natural sign language! If that one is thursty, will show his/her the same sign language! some time we also use when there is noisy atmosphere! Therefore, each one invention and sear was relying on nature! The finder studied deeply on this subject on nature and histry. Then they created the special version!

I think my friend again you revise your comment philosophically and seriously, that will give you proper position! Why we should think that , if a real friend is...that he must be ready to tolerate or if he is from different culture must face .... so on! It is negative thinking!
If we are the best friends of our friends, we should think about the feelings of our real friends! If we neglect this manner, it mean , we have less feelings and caring for our friends. Therefore, first we should be learn to behave the right manner better to expect from our the best friends ! smile

I agree with you my friend. But here I am talking about the sign language which is called according to your view, is conventional,
is , how it emerged? The real base is the nature !
Yes, what you talking about regional sign language that, if some community may salute you by showing his two hands like Indian Hindus do! If some other communal person may show you one handed salute( it is only one example). So, there may be differ from region to region and communiy to community and may be at North Pole to South Pole!!! But, all are natural language! Like different group of animals may show us their own sign language !!!

zrafatdjmd1 Saturday, October 8, 2011 4:27:49 PM

Lol! Aziz... what an analogy! 'like different group of animals...'

Look! heart

Abdulaziz Noratabdulaziznorat Sunday, October 9, 2011 2:16:08 AM

That who gathered & created scientifically for needy people is worth honorable ! World sign language is similar every where subject to exceptional regional and communal some different signs!
Have a healthy evening Teresa smile

Well, for example, my friend changed the words to "It's a beautiful life" to "I've got a beautiful wife", after which I retorted: "No, you don't." bigsmile
In good jest, and he still is one of my best friends. Someone I knew less well would have put a fist in my nose, but my friends know me.

Note: Someone asked me how to sign "Just joking."
You could use the sign "tease" to mean you were / are "just joking.
Another thing you could do would be to spell the letters JK to mean "just kidding.

Today I've been watching a Brit film where the brother of the boy was deaf. What an interesting sight, speaking so clear and neat in BSL.

A pleasure to the eyes indeed!

Ah! By the way, the film was Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) a British comedy film directed by Mike Newell. It was the first of several films by screenwriter Richard Curtis to feature Hugh Grant, at least so it's told by Wikipedia. bigsmile

OTOH, that sign above is 'thank you' in British Sign Language.

That was a very funny movie!

Btw, I suddenly realise, I've always wanted to know something... There's a French set of movies called Orange, Blanche, and Bleu - I believe. I'll google it when I have time. At the end of one of the movies, the husband of an abusive misleading woman is in jail, and she signs him something; boom, end of the movie. Do you know these movies? They are awesome! I would like to know what she says... bigsmile

zrafatdjmd1 Friday, October 14, 2011 12:16:06 PM

Buenos dias Benfriend! smile

Oh... I'm going to google too but the first comes in my mind is -and I don't know if it's related to, the red, white and blue colours as the Dutch national flag (heraldic colours of bright vermilion, white and cobalt blue tough).

Okay. Anyway, I'll try.

zrafatdjmd1 Friday, October 14, 2011 1:07:48 PM

Hopeless Ben... gimme more details, s'il te plaît savoir plus a propos du cette cinéma smile

.

Ben Treinbentrein Friday, October 14, 2011 4:11:47 PM

In order:

Here's Blue
Here's White
Here's Red

These have nothing to do with the colours of the Dutch flag, but with those in the French flag. Polish director, many languages appear in the movie. Among others, sign language... And I believe it's at the end of White that I wonder what she's saying. But I saw these when they were in the cinema, so I don't remember with 100% certainty!
Three awesome films though!

zrafatdjmd1 Saturday, October 15, 2011 2:08:44 PM

Oooops!! doh It's very true, it's a trilogy 'Trois Couleurs -bleu, blanc et Rouge'(1994).

Okay. Hold on a siecle! JK! ... a second instead!
