UK v Continent 13 April 2008

First leg at Warneton, Belgium. A decisive victory for the UK team - 275 points to nil. The return leg is at Ipswich on 6 July.

The freeby Sunny adds another destination to it's impressive list too, being loaded and unloaded for a brief trip on the ferry!

National Teams 2007

South West n Proud!

Devon and Cornwall joined forces to make the trip to Hednesford's National Teams. All racing under Pikey colours the team consisted of 9 Chopper, 66 Spoons, 147 Purdy, 190 Pikey, 191 Ash and 406 Chris. With 30 teams (180 cars) it was a great day of racing with some real legends out there on the track.

Spoons managed to blow his engine in his first heat but the boys had it changed in less than an hour. Phil made his Hednesford début a classic by winning his second heat, flag to flag. Ash and Chopper had a rough ride of it but kept tugging the cars and getting back out there for one more hit. Chris (in a Nissan 100!!) was flying as of course was Pikey himself.

Well they must have done ok . . . cos they won!

The oldest trophy in banger racing now has a South West team added to it's list. Everybody worked really well together - drivers, mechanics, even the signwriters. So well done to everyone.

Mk 1 Granada
Dave's baby! She started life as a 2Ltr L, in bronze and only had 3 owners. He bought her originally to race but when he got her over the pit she was too good. So he pottered about doing bits and pieces to get her through MOT, fitting a 3 Litre engine, LPG and finally getting a quick spray paint and she went back on the road for the first ever Judgement Day.

It was our best road car for quite a while, until it inevitably got parked up (on my front lawn!) Then he made the decision she had to go, although still solid underneath the panels and valances were looking bad. He took out the 3 Litre & interior and sold it, repaired the damaged panels and gave her the Renegades livery ready for the only meeting worthy of her - Crasharama 9. The 32 year old showed them the way to the flag in her heat, despite being spun and losing a couple of places Dave was soon able to catch and pass all runners. Unfortunately two flat tyres in the final saw the end of the day for the Mk1.

So Dave took her back to St Day the next week. Despite starting a lap down in the first race she soon caught up to take 4th, but in the second race Dave mistakenly overtook a jag which then piled him straight in the fence. He won't make that mistake again! They held the gate while he pulled the front and the back, did steering, replaced both drive shafts and all wheels. By the time the greens were out he was in the fence again courtesy of a cheap shot from No 20. Shame she didn't get a couple more laps in and find something to bury on the home track, but that's racing.

They say never race your road car, but he'd never have sold it for just anyone to race. At least the Mk1 had one last blast!
North Cornwall 2007

The Renegades took a trip up to North Cornwall to have a day on the grass. Great fun all round, especially the battles with TCM! Plenty of trophies came home. A special well done to 174 Gonzo for winning the DD
