Fingers tired of pressing F5 to see new messages? It's time to switch to real-time.

Follow this link: irc://irc.opera.com/techies. If your browser doesn't know what to do with the link, but you have separate IRC client, connect to irc.opera.com server and join #techie. If you don't have any client, there's ChatZilla for Firefox and if you're using something else than Opera or Firefox, you can download KVIrc.

Please have some patience though, most of us are not glued to the keyboard and even have to sleep and go to work. If you can't stay but want to be contacted later, please remember to tell your My Opera username. But leaving the window open doesn't hurt, so try that first. You can even browse the web while waiting wink

PS: Most likely someone is available somewhere between 18-22 GMT

oh that bad ..wat time is it at your place ???

Antero Hytönenanzah Thursday, March 15, 2007 7:10:31 PM

Problem is that most active people are from Europe (total two of us), so few from other side of the world would be good to fill the gaps.

Theo HubenetPimpyT Sunday, July 15, 2007 5:29:30 PM

I was just thinking of the same thing, but it is definitely possible to make that live chat available on a website. Google did it with the chat you have on your gmail and I am sure that if given a week or so, I can make a nice real-time chat or even a live forum... all I need is a little bit of encouragement anf some time and I can build that first real-time turbo charged forum with live answers to your questions and you can ask the pro's that are online availavble to answer and so on...

Antero Hytönenanzah Monday, July 16, 2007 8:23:19 PM

I think I still wouldn't part from my Irssi smile

Web chats are fine, but how easy it is to follow few of them simultaneously? With IRC, you're not confined to one channel, network or user interface. Sure, that system could be popular though. Most of the people really haven't seen realtime chat outside MSN.

And unless pros get paid by hour, answers are never fast enough.

Theo HubenetPimpyT Tuesday, July 17, 2007 6:51:41 AM

Very true, but everyone has a blog or a website now and if a community like my Opera has the real-time chat, then it would really be a valuable thing to have on your blog.. i would like it

Must have been bad timing. I'm usually always in, but lately I have been having hardware issues. Maybe best times to visit are somewhere around 16-24GMT as people have to go to work and sleep too. Other times might be quite silent, unless you have patience to wait few hours for an answer.

It should work just by clicking the link. Do you get any error messages?

act2bmp Wednesday, December 10, 2008 1:18:56 PM

Hi there my chat don't chat! as for gmail in you web page ymail do it to just thought ad say. But your right it would be much better to do it all from one browser.

Id also like to find help on setting up Apache on my home PC. I installed 2.2.10 for host act2bmp.game-host.org it works at first then after a reboot I get an error saying access denied on Apache server 1.3.27? any help or direction much appreciated.

thanks

Antero Hytönenanzah Wednesday, December 10, 2008 11:27:59 PM

If the chat doesn't work, please provide at least some details. For example what browser or client you are using and if there's any error messages, those are very helpful too.

As for the Apache question, please make new topic at http://my.opera.com/techie-chat/forums/forum.dml?id=3666 and provide as much details as you can.

act2bmp Friday, December 12, 2008 3:42:00 AM

thanks I use opera 9 default Ive never really used irc before now so it is new to me. I click the link and nothing or right click open in new just kinda hangs at a new page but that's about it.

If you can explain the how to connect it may help me alot. thanks for the Apache will do but just put ubuntu on from an opera users link it has irc stand alone but to configure it looks a bit more than I know at the moment. Thanks again for now john.

Antero Hytönenanzah Saturday, December 13, 2008 1:14:54 PM

It's hard to say why Opera isn't working and chat really doesn't give any error messages. There's way to debug it, but that gets too complicated. It would be easier to give instructions how to use separate IRC client.

My guess would be that firewall is blocking the chat as it's not normal web traffic. ChatZilla is also as easy to configure as it also works if you just click the link.

act2bmp Saturday, December 13, 2008 2:55:30 PM

Hi and thanks.

I'm running Ubuntu as I say this, theres loads of new stuff to learn if I stick with it that is! but it has IRC and if you can explain how I would use a stand a loan IRC that would be a big help to me.

And if anyone gives Ubuntu a try theres a bit of a help link at Fosswire I'll keep reading and doing for now thanks again. john sherlock

Antero Hytönenanzah Saturday, December 13, 2008 5:03:53 PM

Here's few links that should help you getting started, so you should at least be able to connect somewhere.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/XChatHowto
http://www.xchat.org/docs/start/
http://t0x.in/xchatconnect.html

Hey thanks man appreciate it, I shall be doing heads in live real soon idea

act2bmp Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:34:41 PM

Hi again, I installed xchat but I need to know how I install operas irc ?

I followed all the links only I found it a bit vague. Don't get me wrong theres a lot of help and irc's setup for you but not enough to tell me how I connect to your irc #techie

I'll keep digging! it'll be me missing the obvious thanks again john zip

Antero Hytönenanzah Sunday, December 14, 2008 6:52:11 PM

You don't have to install Operas IRC, it's builtin. There's just something wrong with your for Opera as it seems that it doesn't want to connect.

As for X-Chat, two first links are just to get you started. The last one has instructions on how to add new network in http://t0x.in/xchatconnect.html#03

What you need to do is to add irc.opera.com as server and #techie as channel (though you can also join channels later on). Then you should have OperaNet as network, so you can connect to it.

act2bmp Monday, December 15, 2008 9:56:59 AM

Thanks again, I will do that.

act2bmp Monday, December 15, 2008 10:36:56 AM

Thanks, it worked a treat.

All this is on the Ubuntu 8.10 OS.

I think I'll see how it goes but if anyone has an old PC like this one or just wants to try something new then this is it for me.

Its got a bit of slagging off from the odd one in the Op Com but its 4 free and does more than it said on the tin. And did I say it was free!

I found the link from a site on Opera. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu

Hi
I'm using irc for a week or two .I hav two gsm modems for internet connection two different operaters. From last sunday I can't log in to OperaNet,Europe server using one of my modems(centerel.pl)but it workes on different servers.I'd like to know why I am blocked using one operater(centertel.pl) and everthing works ok using the other(eranet.pl)? I didn't do any harassment,I was only checking available channels too many times...I'd prefer to use the modem that I'm blocked cos it works more smoothly and don't lose operater's signal.
Thank you for any reply.

Antero Hytönenanzah Wednesday, December 17, 2008 9:31:29 PM

I don't operate the network, so I can only guess what's happened. It could have been something you have done or somebody else using same ISP is to blame. Some people keep reconnecting to get different IP address so ban might cover whole ISP. Usually ban should be lifted sooner or later though.

I haven't had ban from the network, so I'm not sure if reason can be seen when trying to connect, but Opera wouldn't tell anyway as it hides all stuff server says.

There seems to be some confusion about what the topic actually is. At least it's not advertising other sites for sure wink

No my friend its a invite

Antero Hytönenanzah Thursday, February 25, 2010 8:29:00 PM

Practically there's not much difference between those two words. Maybe I'm just cranky, but I guess I would be much more comfortable with links that are either

a) relevant to the topic
b) link is just small part of the contributions to the group from the particular user

Pete, you might have better success at
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/forum.dml?id=2

Though these links should get you started:

As you got crash, cfile system check might be able to recover some files:
http://www.windows-help-central.com/windows-vista-chkdsk.html

Here's list of what the different files contain:
