Mission to Miskolc III: hot in the city

Puh, that was a hot one.. Miskolc in summer can be really hot and these last days it really was. Arriving Wednesday noon, the temperature was around 31 degrees celcius - and it stayed more or less like that. In the forest though, it was much better, so the solution in times like this might be to spend a decent amount of time in there.
WOC is only 15 days away and preparations are going fine. The last days have been used for final preparations in and around Miskolc. Wednesday we did control picking, about 46 controls in an hour of running. My legs were a bit tired after the 5h drive, but the orienteering was more or less okay, except in the end where my concentration went somewhere down the line (well, that will not be the problem at the WOC, Hungarian course setters are not known to use too many controls..). Thursday a middle distance was at the program. At the WOC I will be running the sprint, the long distance and the relay, but not the middle distance. My plan yesterday was to do a decent run at a higher speed, in which I absolutely did not succeed. In the beginning I had big troubles getting onto the map (and I've been running on that particular map at least 3 times before..) and in the end I missed two controls again, just because I wasn't looking good enough to the left and to the right. Great training.. Well, at least the part in the middle was very good, clean and with a good speed.
Today a sprint was on the program. We have been running in Tapolca (the cave bath in Miskolc, area of Euromeeting Sprint) before, but still it was a very good training. At the beginning, I struggled to get the pace up and additionally chose the slower route choice to the control 2. That I really like to run uphill doesn't mean this is always faster, I should have learned that by now.. After 5 minutes of running I finally managed to get some speed into my legs and from then on it was good!
Right now I am on my way to Norway, leaving the rest of the team to fight with the heat back in Hungary at the last sprint and relay trainings. With the forecasted sub-twenty degrees celsius in Vallset tomorrow I might be happy to wear my traditional costume (it's made out of wool!) at the wedding party!

Next week training will go on with the last, important preparations. It will be a good mixture of longer runs in the mountains, hard intervals and a double sprint. It's time to get some rock'n roll into body and mind again!
