F'n'GBH tour

,

We begin our F'n'GBH tour today. Maureen and D are house, dog and duck sitting, whilst Julia, A and myself are off on a tour of Europe taking in France, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

We're currently sat in the terminal building for the chunnel. We got here in plenty of time but there is a potential of an hour and a half delay, but we don't mind because we're on holiday!!!

Here's a picture of us about to board the chunnel train:

Holiday over

We're back. Nearly 800 miles clocked on the car and we're back from our half term exploits - the kids had a good time with their Nan and Julia and I had a cool time in Manchester with Debbie and Panos.

Peak District

, ,

We went to the Peak District today.

We went to Blue John Caves where they mine the Blue John stone. It was not as exciting as it sounds and hard work climbing up the 244 steps back to the top, but it was an experience.

We then drove on to Buxton, had lunch and a wander. Then drove home the scenic route.

Manchester

, ,

We were going to visit the lakes but it is was a grey, wet and windy day today, so we went into Manchester instead.

We went to the Northern Quarter, had some lunch in the Printworks, had a look around Urbis and a look round the shops.

Chester

, ,

We're in Chester today with Debbie and Panos. It's a curious city, with a Roman fortress wall and all the shops in Tudor fronted buildings. A sort of cross between Salisbury and Winchester.

There are two layers of shops on evey street.you have the shops with their fronts on the street and then up some steps there are another row of shops behind. The result is lots of shops - both traditional high street stores and independent shops.

We've been to Ikea in Warrington today where we have seen trouser hangers called 'bumerangs' and lamps called 'fartgs'

Steam train to Swanage

, , ,

Debbie, Panos and kids are down for a few days and Lesley and her boys came to see us today as well. We all went to Swanage on the steam train from Norden, had a picnic on the beach, a wander round the shops and then back home on the train. A good time was had by all, and we're looking forward to fish and chips down at Poole Quay, a boat trip round the Harbour followed by the Thursday night firework display.

Happy Campers

, , ,

We've been away camping in Somerset, near Cricket St. Thomas with Simon, Jeanine and their son, and Michelle and Steve and the girls.

We had a wicked time. We went on Friday and the others joined us on Saturday and we spent Sunday afternoon at Cricket St. Thomas's wildlife park.
