This sign popped on the big screen 3 laps till the end of the British GP. They were obviously expecting the crowds to be chuffed with Hamiltons win

This happened right in front of us during a GP2 race on race day at Silverstone. There had previously been a big smash (which I missed) which is why the barrier is dented.

One of the F1 support races is Classic Sports Cars. These were racers of the past ranging from Imps

to Mustangs

and of course the classic Team Lotus.

Despite the age of the cars, and presumably the self-preservation interest of their owners, the racing (these photos were take during qualifying) was pretty exciting to watch. And then it suddenly became clear that one downside of racing such old cars was their reliability. This Merc broke down in front of us...

and then shortly afterwards one of the car's engines let go a dumped oil on the track. The racing was stopped and the marshalls went into action clearing it up:

We didn't hang around at this point as the car seemed to have dumped its oil tank around a quarter of the race track, but apparently it got going after we left.

Come the following morning (race day) there was little evidence that any oil had been there at all.
