How themix Sees His Wyrld

Soccer Team

I'm just braggin' here, so if you don't want to read on, that's fine, but I'm bursting with excitement. My eldest daughter just made the JV soccer squad at her high school. She's a freshman who hasn't played organized soccer since 6th grade. With the number of children I have and the cost, mostly due to lawsuits/insurance, of playing organized ball she hasn't had an opportunity to play in years.

She has, however, been coaching little ones. She generously stepped up and worked as assistant coach and then coach for the last 3 years in the league her little brother and sisters play in, which I think has served her well. Despite not playing for a few years, she has a better understanding of strategy and the team dynamic in the sport than many girls of 15. Perhaps that played into her making the team.

Another possible factor? She showed up (almost) unconditionally to conditioning sessions for the last couple months. The coach knows her and her work ethic. The coach knows she's committed to the team. More importantly, she cut nearly 3 minutes off of her mile time during conditioning, cutting 1.5 minutes in the last two days! So the coach knows she'll work for her!

Whatever the reason, my 15 year old got one of 18 slots available to 65+ girls who tried out for the team. I'm so excited! This is just the confidence booster I've been hoping for her.

Congratulations, kid!

Oh, to read! There Oughta Be a Law!
