Mindless Entertainment

Okay so I didn't get a lot of work done. Instead I made popcorn and loaded up a couple of movies to sit back and watch.
Neither of my choices were big box office hits, in fact they both did pretty poorly once the critics had their way with them. I'm not a critic, just a fan of entertainment and if that is what you are looking for then read on.
Neither of my choices were big box office hits, in fact they both did pretty poorly once the critics had their way with them. I'm not a critic, just a fan of entertainment and if that is what you are looking for then read on.
The first movie I watched was Journey to the Center of the Earth with Brendan Fraser and Anita Briem. If you are looking for a Jules Verne masterpiece ...look elsewhere, this isn't for you. If you want a couple of laughs, some impressive effects and entertainment then this is for you.
This version of Journey substitutes in a young boy for a young man, a bumbling scientist for a genius professor, and an animated avian for an Icelandic handyman, but at least the female protagonist remains, this time in the form of a mountain guide.
Fraser of course, the bumbling scientist finds the clues to take him, his nephew and a guide into the center of the earth.
The jokes sometimes fall flat, a phophorescent bird is fairly weird, but still worth a rental.
Now what ....this must have been a two for one weekend on Brendan Fraser. The second movie I loaded in was The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon EmperorNot as good as the first The Mummy movie but not as bad as the previews made it out to be.
This movie has all the required elements of epic action, sense of humor and great special effects. The jokes are funny and well timed, but missing was Rachel Weisz the original Evelyn O’Connell.
You've got Brendan Fraser as the bumbling hero (he seems to be a bumbling something in every movie) Jet Li as a very serious looking bad guy even if he isn't actually a mummy and an army of clay warriors a ancient witch and of course abominable snowmen. Don't ask, it just works okay.
Sit back and enjoy the movie for what it is ...entertainment and nothing more.
Definitely worth a rental.

I enjoy sandler when he does intelligent acting as in Reighn Over Me..Which I thought was pretty damned good.

Love Guru was a complete waste of time and film ...unbelievably it's even on BluRay.
Check out Big Stan with Rob Schneider if you get a chance.

There hasn't exactly been any films released this past summer that are even remotely memorable. Okay, maybe Indianna Jones but then that's only because I'm a big fan.
