Carleton University Students Association voted Monday night overwhelmingly in favour of choosing a new charity to support during its orientation week in September, in lieu of Shinerama, which raises money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Okay - so you're thinking, so what. Here's the thing about this piece of stupidity their reason. According to these university students, you know the type that should have a brain, Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects only white males and it isn't inclusive enough.

Umm last time I looked CF affected people from all corners of the globe, usually youth, males tend to live longer than affectd females, but this disease does not discriminate. Apparently these brainiacs couldn't look it up for themselves.

Only one student councillor there seems to have a brain. Nick Bergamini was the only student councillor to vote against the motion.

I think that it's political correctness gone horribly, horribly wrong. They're playing not just politics with this, but they're playing racial politics, and I think it's entirely inappropriate.

One a single student councillor got it right - that doesn't leave much hope for their generation. It's no wonder that Carleton is better known as "Last Chance U".

CBC Story Now the student union is back pedalling contradicting themselves all over the radio.

Feh. I don't even know what to say to that.

Not even bright enough to get the correct info for themselves.

It doesn't bother me so much when one person is ingorant, and not willing to educate themselves. That a whole group of people is ignorant and unwilling... that just makes me sad.

I don't know what their parents are paying for their educations, but to the extent that the education process is about teaching people how to seek information and satisfy curiosity, they are clearly over-paying.

The student body is in an uproar over this, as the Students association never consulted any students, and the association is there to represent the student population. Which it oviously isn't doing.

If the student body is in an uproar, maybe they'll see some changes.

Tabmartel 26. November 2008, 21:04

Perhaps, but this is just another case of bad politics. Change doesn't ussually occur.

Students are nothing, if not worried about what their peers think. It will be interesting to read if there is any follow-up to this story.

Carleton has been very successful with shine-arama...A lot of students don't comprehend the reasoning behind ending a good thing. Only wet babies like changes.
