The oldest cemetary in Halifax.

The first grave was dug in 1724, the last in 1844.
It is of course a closed cemetary. The history in these stones is just amazing.

And why did they close the cemetary?

This cemetary was originally only used for millitary personel of high rank. Less than half a mile away is the Halifax Citadel which was the base of operations for all millitary activities in the water or on the land.

It was closed simply because it was full.

Walking around the cemetary, I was surprised to find one stone that stated the deceased was 76 years old. The average age was in the early 20's

The cemetary itself is located right downtown and 2 blocks up from the harbour, the churches around it were just as amazing with their architecture.
