Hot, Sticky and the Gladiatress

, , ,

I've noticed that the hotter it gets, the more I want to just turn off the brain and do as little as possible; that includes thinking. So tonight with the temperature hovering around the 28 degree mark and the humidex making it feel more like 35 degrees, was no exception.

I do have two web sites to get online and curriculum to write for an Adobe Acrobat course but I just don't have the energy or desire to do any of it. Instead I sat in front of a fan and watched one of the dumbest movies ever made.

Gladiatress produced in 2004 is a spoof of the Gladiator movie starring Russel Crowe. With a tag line of "Does my gluteus maximus look big in this?" I knew this was the movie for my current mood.

As long as you don't expect too much from this flick, you'll get a laugh out of it. If you are looking for historical accuracy and brilliant performances this isn't the movie for you.

The story is a simple one, three sisters (Smirgut the Fierce, Dwyfuc and Worthaboutapig) set out to save Celtic Britain, by thwarting the Roman invasion.

The adventures are silly, some of the jokes crude, all in all worth a rental.

21 ...zzzzZZZZzzzz

, ,

"21" is the fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting it's also about an hour and a half too long.

Boring doesn't begin to describe this movie. This movie drags from start to finish making for a very long winded story about card cheats in Vegas. The characters are unemotional, the acting is stiff and through it all there is little to make you want to care about these people let alone watch them on the screen.

Can't sleep? Insomnia keeping you awake? Rent this turkey and you'll be out like a light before the credits finish rolling. Apparently there is a soundtrack for the thing, but I heard no music until the end credits and that was a botched up remixed edition of the Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Not worth a rental, not even worth the 50 cent disk it was on.

Hot and Sticky

, , , ...

The weekend is rolling along.

Another stinking hot day, stinkining only because if you spent any time outside today no antiperspirant in the world was going to help. I'm glad the sun is finally shining and the summer feels like it is going to be showing up soon; it brings out all those women in short shorts and even shorter skirts. I am admitedly a leg man ...winter kills that with all those big long coats.

After cutting the grass (weeds) in the back and watering my little garden I was completely soaked in sweat. Turning the hose onto myself offered some relief but not for very long. Inside I went, a nice cool shower and I emerged a human once again.

Outside now was out of the question so into the DVD went "The Chaos Theory".

Normally I'm not a big fan of Ryan Reynolds, all I really know him from are National Lampoon movies, I've got to say though this movie isn't bad at all.

Frank Allen (Reynolds) is obsessed with organization, he writes lists for everything he wants to do and everything he needs to do; the guy is anal retentive. Then one day it happens, all his plans, lists, every thing right out the door. Nothing he does works to fix his life so he tries a different approach.

The Chaos Theory, letting things happen on a whim rather than planned, finally enjoying life and doing what he wants; which includes streaking across an arena at a hockey game. There is no real deep or profound message in this movie, it is entertaining, funny and shows Reynolds has a broader range than just Lampoon.

Memorable movie lines, in this case its a list Frank writes up.
  1. Buy Gun
  2. Kill Buddy
  3. Return Gun

Worth the rental.
