Ah YES Summer

, , ,

One of the coolest sites I've ever come across is English Russia. Why cool? You may ask, well I like the mix of old and new lifestyles and all the photos.

From "Summer Has Come" here's a preview

Summer isn't quite here yet!

Interesting Art

, , ,

No, there are no diplomas or degrees in art hanging on my wall to certify me an artist. I am just an ordinary woman painting extraordinary work of art. To my family, relatives and all my friends, I thank you for your love and encouragement. To God, I thank you for my artistic gift and I will continue creating colors in this life.

So states Suzi Chua a Malaysian stone and pet artist living in Subang Jaya, Malaysia.

Stone and Pet artist, what the heck is that you're probably asking. Well, as easily as I can explain it, a picture or two is worth a lot more. You send her a photo, she draws, then paints the image on a rock.

The puppy is just one of many pet portraits online at her site. Check it out for yourself at Stone Painting.

Up and Coming

, , , ...

I finally got a little down time. I've been reading, writing and of course travelling the world all while sitting at my desk. Credit goes to the internet for that, I can zip from one country to another without ever whipping out a passport. I kind of miss having the pages stamped, but I can live without it.

What I have found recenly are a couple of very interesting photography web sites. The two that I'm going to tell you about are "up and coming" almost arrived and very imaginative in the work they produce.

News You Probably Missed

, , , ...

Before I get started with whacky news stories - has anyone bothered to look at the list of Oscar nominations? If you have looked, is it just me or is there absolutely nothing there worth seeing?

Not that I'm a big fan of the Oscars, it is after all just another in a long line of crappy award shows. With the type of movies they are promoting it is little wonder that their viewer ratings get lower every year.

Okay, now on with some whacky news.

A 29 year old B.C. man probably wishes he had given his 11-month-old son a set of keys to play with instead of a phone. Apparently the youngster dialed 911 which brought the Police to the house and sent Dad to jail.

Mounties say a 9-1-1 call came in from a White Rock, B.C. residence Friday morning but whoever was on the other end of the line hung up. Officers arrived at the residence and after numerous knocks on the door went unanswered, they entered the home.

"The gentleman was quite surprised," said White Rock RCMP Const. Janelle Canning.

Startled by the sudden sight of police, he insisted he hadn't made the call. That's when police spotted the baby boy, phone in hand. With that mystery solved, officers then discovered a 500-plant marijuana grow operation.

The father was arrested and will appear in court in early April on charges of production of a controlled substance and mischief.

I like Japan

, , ,

What's not to like about Japan? With the internet able to bring us news and information at the click of a button, we get to learn about cultures from places most of us will never see.

People make jokes about Japan - "Bringing Us Weird Since ..." You've all heard them, read them or seen them somewhere else so I don't need to repeat them here. But I've got to ask - what's not to like?

What guy wouldn't want to put his head into a lap to take a snooze!

Isn't this the ultimate in pillowy comfort.

Okay so there are a lot of oddball things about Japan, like the Nioi-bu, or Smell Club website. Japanese are taking their noses global with a Web site that describes different odors around the world and pinpoints where they can be found on a map.

Launched in December, there are more than 160 registered scents around the world, ranging from "steam coming out of a rice cooker" to "used socks in the summer," and pinpointed their locations on a Google map.

Nearly 200 members, called "smellists," have joined the Japanese-language only site. Some of what they report: "A toasty odor of cow dung" in Fujisawa City, just southwest of Tokyo. In Kamakura, eastern Japan, "cats with halitosis" were suspected to be roaming about.
