Monday Morning blah chaser

, , ,

All right, so I missed posting the silly news on Friday - in my defense I didn't even know it was Friday. With keeping myself busy and the crap weather every day looks and feels the same.

It all looks the same to me - rain and more rain.

I don't understand what they are saying, but that's okay. The people talking don't change the simple fact that this is an incredibly funny clip.

Silly

Work - work and more work. Yep keeping myself as busy as a one legged man at a butt kicking contest. Hopping from one place to another, spreading joy wherever I am.

Okay now that you're busy laughing, I'll continue on.

Reading the papers, it seems our (ahem) beloved leaders have decided they can't do much about the world economies but they can control the weather! Alrighty then, lets have a couple of more degrees heat around here and a lot more sunshine please. Does this mean countries can have their very own individual thermostats?

Speaking of weather, it seems today is the one day of summer this area is going to get. Yes folks, Ottawa has packed summer into a 24 hour period and today is it. Average temperatures so far have been way below normal, rain fall is up and the lack of sunlight has led to an increase in the use of tanning salons.

Tanning beds have one city councillor here up in arms. Alex Cullen thankfully not my councillor wants to put a ban on under 18 year olds using these tanning devices. He's also responsible for wanting to put hand sanitizers on the buses, attempting to ban trade shows at city owned facilities, increases to bus fares after a 51 day strike by drivers; the list could go on but you get the idea.

Pictures are worth a thousand words.

It would take a lot more than that to explain some of the photos over at Awkward Family Photos. We've all got them stuffed away in shoe boxes hidden under beds or buried in closets, why not show them off!

Got an hour to kill? Then head on over and enjoy the photos! Seeing other people looking silly might make you feel better about the photos you've got hidden from from sight.

Who the F#%K dresses up as a bear?

Speaking of family life

I found this really interesting site Why Not, Right? The site is devoted to the joys of parenting by obviously pretty bad parents.

Around here, you need a license to have a dog but it seems anyone can have kids. Looking at some of the photos I've got to wonder if this is the norm these days.

God help us all.

It's Friday I'm out of here - Bluesfest is up and running.

All Quiet on the Home Front

, , ,

Quiet doesn't begin to describe the atmosphere around here. Not that it is normally noisy, I just think the wet weather and grey skies are keeping people inside and subdued.

A little cloud didn't deter me though. Waking up today at the crack of noon, I decided I needed a hair cut. Yep out of the blue I wanted it all shortened. A hair cut on a Saturday? I must be nuts, the place will be loaded with people.

Not a problem - I walked in and was out 10 minutes later, not a soul in the place but me. Very unusual! Next on the list, food; I was a little hungry and honestly just a wee bit too lazy to cook anything for myself. I hate cooking to begin with!

Bonus points again, walking on down the road a little cafe was open. Normally they only serve breakfast and lunch and close up for the day. This weekend they are experimenting with staying open for dinner as well and nobody knows anout it yet.

The Baker Street Cafe is very inconspicuous, hidden behind a very simple facade there is no indication of what you might fond inside. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Nothing fancy, just really good food and decent music playing at an easy level.

I asked for a burger, nothing fancy and got the best damn one I've tasted in a long time. The thing was huge, topped with not one but 3 types of lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, cheese and bacon. That wasn't all, freshly made home fries, fresh fruit and a never ending cup of coffee. I was in heaven.

Will I ever go back there again, you betcha. Yes, not a bad day despite the terrible weather.

Hot Fun in the Summertime

, ,

Man its been HOT!

Over this past week, we've been up and over 30C and lovin' it.

With the heat though my walking around has been a little on the stick to the shady side of the street, but the sun couldn't be avoided yesterday.

Walking along Sparks St. I couldn't help but gain weight even though I ate nothing. The BBQ Rib Cook off is going on and the smells alone will make your mouth water with desire.

With all the heat though, I haven't felt much like eating so I can't tell you who's ribs are the best. To me they all smelled fantastic!

Canada Day is coming up quickly and on Parliament Hill the stage is being built. Check out the web cam image above and you can see the construction happening.

Checking the weather forecast for next week I see the temperature will be dropping to 25 with showers. My garden will love the water and I'll enjoy the cooler temps.

An Off Day

, ,

I spent the entire day in bed. Not because I wanted to, but because I managed to catch the flu. All winter long, not so much as a sniffle, the warm weather hits and I get sick. Nope it's not that weird flu going around the world, just your average ordinary everyday stomach bug that is making life a little miserable.

The day wasn't a total write off though. I caught up on sleep I've been missing, watched hours of "Get Smart" and read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

I need to get over this bug quickly, I don't want to miss the Dragon Boat races happening this weekend.

I also don't want to be stuck in bed when the weather is supposed to be semi decent. Semi because right now they are saying cloudy with showers on Saturday and lots of sun on Sunday.

Today wasn't one of my best days - it also wasn't a bad day.
