A college student found himself charged with assaulting an officer with a curious choice of weapons: M&Ms.
Sean McGuire was arrested early Sunday at a convenience store after Drake University security guards noticed the coloured candies falling on the ground around the officer. When the officer turned around, an M&M hit his shoulder, according to a police report.
McGuire, of Glenview, Illinois, was released from jail Sunday after posting $1,000 bond.
Gi'Day Mate That's some fine beer. An Australian driver who secured a carton of beer in his car with a seat belt but left a five-year-old child unrestrained was fined $710.
Constable Wayne Burnett says he was "shocked and appalled" when he pulled over the unregistered car on Friday in the central Australian town of Alice Springs. The 30-can carton was strapped in between the two adults sitting in the back seat of the car. The child was also in back, on the vehicle's floor.
Sometimes, you just know it's going to be a bad day.
Just ask Justin Hill, a 42-year-old Tennessee man. One minute he's turning in to his driveway - then he's on his way to hospital, watching his home go up in flames. Then he got a traffic ticket. Tennessee police say Hill got into a crash after turning into the path of an oncoming car Tuesday evening.
Hill's wife heard the crash and ran outside, leaving her cooking on the kitchen stove.
Within minutes, their trailer was on fire, and firefighters who had responded to the accident found themselves fighting the blaze. Hill was treated at the hospital and released, but he was cited in the accident for failure to yield.
