Writer's Block

where my strange imagination roams free...

En Garde

,

"So what do we do now?"
"We fight."
"Fight?"
"Yes, to the death."
"We WHAT?!"
"That's what it says."
"But...but..."
"En garde, Mike!"
"Hey, put that butter knife down! Yeeaaarrgghhhh!"

"Nice going, Pete. Really smart move."
"Thanks. I knew I had to strike fast before-"
"Don't thank me, you stupid twonk!"
"But...the rules?!"
"What part of 'role-playing' is confusing you?"
"I was playing an outraged knight, betrayed in love and facing his rival in a duel to the death."
"Yes. And?"
"Well, he has more hit points than me so it was important I got in the first blow, and made it a good one."
"Yes, and ordinarily we'd use a 2D20 roll, combine that with your Speed and QuickStrike attributes and subtract his Awareness and Defence stats, then work out whether you'd hit and how much damage you'd done. Not grab the butter knife and stab him with it!"
"Ah."
"You see the problem."
"Yes...sorry, Dave."
"You don't have a high enough Butter Knife skill to attempt a first strike with it - didn't you learn anything from last week?"
"It was a bar brawl scene - whacking Barry over the head with a chair was appropriate."
"Yes, but hardly feasible when you're playing a halfling and he's a giant. Did you wait for the dice? No, you just whacked him."
"I...er..."
"Well, now I've got to try and clean another mess up. Where's my Acts Of God list? Ah, there it is. Let's see what's in the Accidental Slaying section..."
"Please, not again!"
"...rolling the dice now...quit whining, Pete...and...12! Hey, you'll like this one, Pete!"
"I...I will?"
"A lightning strike! A sudden bolt of lightning frying Mike alive, and merely mildly singeing you. Of course, this destroys all his magic items that I know you were coveting, but you can't win them all."
"Mildly singeing?!"
"Oh, you'll hardly feel it, trust me. Hold out your hands."
"Well...ok."

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztttttt!
*thud*

"And another win for the Dungeon Master!"

Accidental slaying section rocks :D.

theoddbod 16. January 2009, 01:35

I've never played one of these with proper D&D rules, and they always dissolved into chaos anyway. That might have been my fault :left:.
It was more fun annoying the Dungeon Master by ignoring the plot he'd spent hours creating and choosing instead to focus on a locked door or anything that he'd added only as scenery p:.

yulenka 16. January 2009, 11:05

It was unusual but interesting in any case:) Your storyes are something unexpected always

clean 16. January 2009, 11:06

Good one!

You don't have a high enough Butter Knife skill to attempt a first strike with it

SqueakeyCat 1. February 2009, 22:02

lmao, i love it...i used to play D & D years ago...have not done it in almost 12 yrs now

theoddbod 2. February 2009, 01:18

:D

I went through a phase playing these, along with Space Marine and a nice variant of Magic : The Gathering that was based on Babylon 5. Problem was that my friend who could afford all this stuff didn't tend to want to play with anything again once he'd lost.
I was also once talked into playing Pokémon :left:.

SqueakeyCat 3. February 2009, 01:35

lmao...i haven't played that yet, but i have collected some

Dacotah 6. February 2009, 07:02

Mart, one inch of snow? Try navigating through 40 inches of snow like I have here. :D

theoddbod 6. February 2009, 08:25

@Javaen : if you're waiting, you're supposed to use this smilie :wait: p:.

And yes, I'm enjoying the new engagement :D. Even though we live in different countries at the moment awww

@Carol : I knew you'd laugh at that p:. Our one inch of snow is enough to sometimes close schools and roads and stop trains . Although they did have a bit more snow than that in London.

Dacotah 6. February 2009, 08:29

 Don't do that! :frown:

Dacotah 10. February 2009, 06:01

Mart, you have a spammer on your blog. :irked:

Marike79 10. February 2009, 06:08

they were reading Clint's blog

theoddbod 10. February 2009, 08:03

Forum, blog and PM spam in one go - not seen one of those for a while.

Bit lazy of the mods to not remove his forum posts yet, though awww.

Furie 10. February 2009, 12:29

According to his profile he's suing Opera for not letting him close his account. That's probably why they haven't banned him, but just removed all his comments.

Marike79 10. February 2009, 12:33

does he go by as WizardOfTheStone also? he had many accounts and wanted them all banned

theoddbod 10. February 2009, 12:54

He was banned before i woke up and commented earlier - are we talking about the same member?
WizardOfTheStone went a little bit OTT, but his problem was the removal of groups as well.

Javaen 10. February 2009, 13:25

*walks in* Oh goodie. Your place is cleaned up. I got annoyed just knowing there were six comments here! P:

Glad all better!

Furie 10. February 2009, 16:12

Chris200673. I reported him soon as I got here, getting caught in a network flux and flooding the forums myself. Homer: Doh! Got out, deleted my extras, caught him attempting to flood me too and blocked him.

Javaen 10. February 2009, 19:54

I figured it was a passionate protest to the lack of new stories by Mart. :frown:

And undoubtedly just smitten with you Mik. flirt

Furie 10. February 2009, 21:22

No, it's a protest against my stubble and obviously smitten with Mart. He's one sexy ass hamster.

theoddbod 10. February 2009, 21:33

:o::D

You've now inspired me to do something slightly cruel

Furie 10. February 2009, 21:49

Ooo, can we vote on what goes public next? I vote for Hitslink III and Clickety Clack.

theoddbod 10. February 2009, 22:08

The Hitslink ones are tricky as I have to wait until I get enough interesting/amusing searches to fill a post...and I'm nowhere near the amount needed.
Some of the others are just missing the ending awww

Javaen 10. February 2009, 22:29

Maybe you'll get that spark of inspiration soon. I do that all the time with short stories.... My problem is, I figure out the ending in my head, and move on to the next idea without putting it down. I guess I lose my passion for the story once I know the ending. :frown:

Furie 10. February 2009, 22:30

Do them one at a time. That way you can focus them more and we get more hamster flesh on our watch lists baby. flirt

theoddbod 10. February 2009, 23:33

At one point I was going to save up a string of stories and then release one every couple of days. That was after the day when I had 6 story ideas on one train journey :D

Hmmm...hamster flesh...:sherlock:...*scribbles note*

Furie 11. February 2009, 18:20

:insane:

Javaen 11. February 2009, 18:33

Furie 12. February 2009, 00:18

Dacotah 12. February 2009, 05:04

awww Poor Mart, you are stuck. How are you going to get out of that.
Looks like Mik's going to light you and smoke you. :faint:

Furie 13. February 2009, 00:48

That's a certain actor holding him, not me. :left:

Javaen 13. February 2009, 02:14

 Not Tom Greene!!

Phantom2 17. February 2009, 17:25
