the maltese famous cuisine

The rocky island of Malta is home to some beautiful rustic recipes that sing of Mediterranean flavour and freshness. Maltese cuisine is truly peasant cuisine, using vegetables in season, home-made cheeses and some of the cheaper cuts of meat. These are cooked slowly with fresh tomatoes, parsley and garlic to create tender stews with lots of flavour.

One of the famous meat dishes is bragioli or beef olives, a rolled stuffed piece of meat cooked slowly. Rabbit is also extremely popular and many Maltese families raise their own. Meals are large and served communally - the famous baked pasta pie timpana generally feeds a small army of people. These are few pictures from the maltese cuisine:

malta beaches

Malta offers a range of beautiful beaches to suit all tastes... Whether you are in the mood for a relaxing sunbathing session or in a more sporty, active mood, there is a suitable beach for you! Choose from golden sand, red sand, rocks, blue lagoons and even inland seas...

There are plenty of easily accessible beaches for families, rocky inlets ideal for snorkellers and beach sunsets for twilight swimmers. Most beaches are easily reached by bus and a short walk. Some beaches and rocky shores are slightly harder to reach, but worth seeking out for their seclusion and unspoilt surroundings!

Cafes, fruit stalls or snack bars are abundant on larger beaches during the summer season. With Malta’s climate, beach life lasts well into October. Enjoy water sports and activities like windsurfing, jet and water skiing, para-kiting and fun rides. You can hire equipment from beach cafes or shops nearby.

welcome to the small island GOZO

Gozo - with tiny Comino - is a place to escape to at any time of the year. Even if you are on holiday in Malta.

The people are welcoming and friendly, the countryside both dramatic and picturesque and if you want to get away from it all, you can. It has all the essential ingredients that make it an ideal holiday destination.

Gozo islandEven if you are there for a short visit, it is easy to see why Gozo has become known as undiscovered paradise

The charm of Gozo is apparent the moment you arrive there. Greener, more rural and smaller than Malta, life on Gozo moves at a leisurely pace. The rhythms dictated by the seasons, fishing and agriculture.
In winter and spring, the Island is covered with flowering herbs and lush crops. In summer, it’s awash with oleander, bougainvillea and geranium.

malta glass (blown by mouth)

Glassware is a relatively new craft, although the industry was present on the islands in Phoenician times. Entirely mouth blown and hand made, much of the glassware today is a type of original Maltese glass in strong Mediterranean colours.

The complicated process begins with multicoloured beads, which are blown into a shape. Clear glass is then placed around the coloured glass and a shape is designed. This technique produces objects of art with an interesting interplay of colours.

Other modern pieces, such as their Picasso-style vases, bowls, statutes, perfume bottles and individual beads, are all available glass objects.

hagar qim temple

The 5,000-year-old Hagar Qim ("HA-jar eem") temple is the best-preserved of several ancient limestone temples in Malta. Hagar Qim is located about 2km from the village of Qrendi in southern Malta, a short walk from the Mnajdra temples .

Hagar Qim is thought to date from the "Ggantija phase," about 3600 to 3200 BC. Unlike most other Maltese temples, it is a single temple rather than a complex of two or three.

The temple is laid out on a clover-leaf shape and consists of four or five apses, with a forecourt and facade. This design is typical of Neolithic temples across Malta.

One noteworthy characteristic of Hagar Qim are its larger orthostats (upright stones) at the corners, which are notched to take the second of horizontal courses above.

have faith and you live forever

poem of joy and hope

Joy and hope were playing one day
joy wanted to frolic and hope wanted to stay
they got in an arguement and joy ran away
and soon after hope began to stray
joy was lost through out the land
hope was taken my evil's hand
and in this empty lonliness joy was but forgotten
this left thy soul but not whole
yet torn and almost rotten
we wondered the day that hope would return and joy might come as well
we questioned their existance as days rose and fell
whilst joy was gone hope lived on but was not near
while joy and hope were away often visited fear
one day a wandering stranger met our town
he called himself love
and love was what we learned
and on the day love was found
joy and hope returned.
