Diane's Days

Today was the first day of summer vacation and they have all passed onto their next grades with high scores behind them.
It's a gloriously gloomy day peppered with showers, yet we venture out in-between the drops to pick up a snack at the local Am/Pm, budget in mind. We stop to watch two patrol cars work as a team to help a woman with her disabled car through the intersection..."so that's what those things on the front of their cars are for", and "they are always helping people aren't they?"
They are laughing and joking with each other, not yet sick of each others company...
Oh how I need to remember this day!
As we near home I notice the bushes that the homeless have been using for shelter are gone, gang graffiti on the wall, has it always been there and just noticeable now?

Formal school over and summer school yet to be, cooking class today, egg salad for lunch. The youngest one so happy to "potato mash" everything into submission, just one choosing bread over a lettuce bed.
Dreads combed out, time taken to work on more skills, reading and hugging and all those thrills.
Favorite game of the day, to play school!
One day down...how many to go?
