mp3 & music and can you tell the difference between good and bad?

, , ,

I really love music. I have it everywhere and I tend to not leave the house without my phone with GB of music on it and I so spend hours listening to it every day.
I use mp3 files since back in the 1990s. While the average quality started with 128kbit - which has been described as 'nearly CD-quality' - this has never been enough for me. I quickly switched to either 192kbit or ogg files (way better but due to incompatibility I had to focus on mp3 sad ).

After mp3 files became widely available online and the web speed increased daily, many people just turned away from CDs and bought mp3 player and files.
I just came across an article about the decrease of quality of hearing today and with it a test to hear the difference between the bad and the 'good' mp3 quality (128kbit compared to 320kbit). It looks like not even half of the people can tell, which is the better one. I tried, listened to each file twice and I ended being disappointed in myself because there is just one single second, where I could really tell, which testfile is the 320kbit one. Maybe it's due to my headphones. Maybe it's due to listening to online radio to much lately. sad

But test yourself: "Do 320kbps mp3 files really sound better? Take the test!"

Did you hear the difference? Did you pick the right one?

2009-06-27 Snow Patrol again

With about 45 minutes it has been a shorter gig than the concert one month ago, but what else can you expect from a free (festival) concert? Even though it has been just a great event - one more time! smile

Swiss-German or anything else? ;-)

It's really lovely if you don't understand a single word. Hopefully this will change till fall. And no, I'm not talking about Swiss-German because I (believe that I) do understand that (meaning Swiss-German but not the following wink ): Listen to the music smile

2009-05-26 Snow Patrol live in Vienna

, , , ...

Two days after the AC/DC concert Snow Patrol has been visiting Vienna. I've been lucky enough to get tickets and I'm still captivated and enchanted by the magic of the show and the music. It was just THE concert of the year and I'm looking forward to see them again in just one month at the Donauinselfest and probably next year at the U2 concert as - officially - supporting act doh Well, why not. The U2 tickets will be pricey enough for getting this addon "for free". smile

I got two videos (sorry for the bad quality, but the camera already became older without getting new features wink ). The first one is Snow Patrol's hit "Run", which has been covered by Leona Lewis shortly. I started recording after Gary's first try, which he had to cancel because he didn't get the lyrics right in the first place *lol* This just made the concert more personally because of his reaction and the following reaction of the audience. It was a moment to take out the earplugs and to sing along with a couple of hundred people and the man with the guitar who has "forgotten" the lyrics bigsmile Awesome, awesome, sooo awesome!

Unfortunately my camera ran out of space while recording the second video cry Just wanna quote the one girl screaming: "SING IT!" jester

last.fm

As I'm sitting in a library right now and the music on my phone got heard too often I needed something new. Luckily I just had installed a software called "Mobbler" on my S60-mobile and so I ran into lastfm. I know it's nothing new, but I never noticed how good this service is smile

So I got myself an account there and if you also do so, we could share our music - if you like to. wink

My profile.

Edit: I guess I have to withdraw what I said before. Either am I not able to use this service correctly or it's not free as I thought first.
