On Which Side are You?

All human societies, including ours, tell incredible stories of how the world began. Many accounts begin when a creature, such as a crab or tortoise, dives into a primeval ocean and brings up a small piece of earth from which the universe is created. Myths of these kinds are common among primitive people.
On the other hand, scientists have laboured to prove that The ‘Big Bang’ is the beginning of the universe. The Big Bang Theory states that in the beginning there was nothing and from this nothingness a reaction occurred that gave way to a tremendous explosion leading to the existence of space and time; but the various theories fail to explain what existed before The Big Bang. What caused The Big Bang? Or how did the material get there in the first place? There is nothing available to science to prove that yet.
Rather than engage in frivolous and endless research on how the world came about, the Bible has provided us with answers. In the passage we read, “the earth was without form and void,” that is, it existed in a formless or shapeless state. It was only the works of God, described in Genesis 1:3-10, that put an end to that formlessness of the earth.
Scientists are beginning to admit defeat. Steven Hawking once said, “The only thing I can imagine before the Big Bang is God.” Sir Arthur Keith admits in the forward to the 100th anniversary edition of Darwin’s book, Origin of Species in 1959: “Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the only alternative is special creation which is unthinkable.”
The Bible provides the answers to the missing link and its claims are as incontestable as they are infallible. As we commence the journey into a new year today, endeavour to make God the pillar of your life. Avoid being fooled by the pitfall of science.

No Private Interpretation

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20 ).
The United States of America, in March this year, arrested some militia in Michigan, a Midwestern state, who called themselves, Hutaree, meaning “Christian Soldier,” while planning to embark on a violent attack on some police officers. They alleged that their purpose was to “prepare for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive.”
The scripture however holds that as believers we are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The activities of Hutaree and their interpretation of the scripture to explain away their violent disposition aptly sums up the penchant of many today who misapply the Bible to suit their selfish interests.
In our text, Apostle Peter pointed out that “no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” Yet, some people revel in giving personal interpretation, opinion, ideas and speculation to the scripture instead of taking “heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”
Many so-called Christians may not be carrying arms like the Hutaree, but their lives are diametrically opposed to the scripture. Men dress like women and women wear men’s clothes, which is an abomination unto God. But these people would argue that the verse of the scripture that condemned their conducts was in the Old Testament, which, to them, had lost its relevance. Some equally argue with he doctrines of restitution, one man one wife, hell and heaven, among others. Yet, a part of our text reads: “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Be it noted therefore that the Bible is not a mere historical or documentary evidence to be treated as any other literary material. It is God’s word which underpins God’s will. It must be single-mindedly read, meditated upon, believed and lived out to impact positively upon the life of a sincere enquirer. Those who contend with and strive against the scriptures only do so to their eternal peril.

Love is very powerful, yet one of the most misused and misapplied words. The promotion of our wellbeing, emotionally, physically and spiritually must find its base in love. Anything short of this leads to unfulfilled and aborted dreams, inevitably resulting in frustration and depression. And this is what has plagued the human race, and worst hit is our current society.
The love we so much profess to have, talk about and even claim to give to others is actually based on selfish motives; because we can get something back is much of why we love, once we are failed our love fades away.
How can we then obtain, retain and show love to others and even ourselves without even thinking of what to gain from it. How can we live happily feeling and knowing we are loved?
The first step is to realise that love comes from God because God is love. He is the only one that so much loves us even though we have offended him, yet he sent his only son Jesus Christ to reconcile us back to him and give us the power to love and feel loved. Without God therefore you cannot find, nor be in true love, without Jesus you cannot love nor manifest an unselfish love to others. When you allow God to show you what proper love is through his son Jesus Christ, you will live the rest of your life in happiness and true satisfaction. God loves you more than you can ever imagine. He created you; he thinks about you in whatever condition you are and really wants to extend to you his unfailing LOVE.
If you never felt loved in your life, this is a big opportunity for you to know that God loves you and wants to help you. If you have been failed in love, God’s love never fails. If you have been hurt by a lover, God heals such emotional and psychological wounds and replaces the scars with his LOVE, God’s love is sacrificial and unselfish. He will give you the power to forgive all those who have hurt you and to be able to love and feel loved again. If you let Jesus into your life, it will change for good.
You can say these prayers and that will mark a beginning of a new life for you.
“Father God I ask you that you forgive my sins, Lord Jesus come into my life and make me a new person. I believe that you are the Son of God and now my saviour.
Thank you for accepting me Amen”
