What exactly is YouWatch?
Well, YouWatch is an Opera Extension which makes your life with YouTube easier. YouWatch hides already watched videos at YouTube, so you only see new not seen videos of your interest. These watched videos have an extra section where you can browse them, search through them and see some funny statistics about them.

Additional, YouWatch also has also an own Search, using the YouTube API, you get the same results like with the YouTube search, but with better handling of already watched videos. Also the search options are as powerful as the original YouTube search.

And as bonus, there is no need anymore to have an YouTube-/Google Account for subscribing to YouTube channels or YouTube playlists. All information will be stored local in your Opera Browser.

First View

YouWatch on YouTube
When you are loading the YouTube page, you will notice two little details which point to YouWatch.
  1. Toolbar Button: This button displays the amount of videos watched at the currently open tab. Clicking on the button will list these videos.
Note: The button is also used as notification. When the database is full, the badge will flash in black/red. If the subscriptions are updating, it will show a blue badge.
  2. YouWatch Watched Link: This link is present on all YouTube pages, as fast access to the YouWatch Watched function. Clicking on it will display your already watched videos with statistics and options to browse and search.

The Watched View

Concept of the Watched View
In the watched view, you can find all videos you have watched, with video information, statistics and the possibility to search.
The Watched View is separated into two sections. The statistics with options and the video list.

Statistics/Options
In this section, some useful, but also some interesting statistics are displayed. These statistics relate not only to the currently displayed videos in the video list, but to all possible videos for the current search. As example, if you had just clicked at the "Watched" link, the statistics apply to all watched videos. If you search something, as example for "Anime" or "Opera Software", the statistics apply only to the watched videos found for this search query.

With the options you can decide which videos you want to display:
  • Watched: Your watched videos
  • Liked: The videos you marked as liked
  • Ignored: The videos you marked to ignore.

Also you can sort the videos by following criteria:
  • Last watched video: Sorted by the time you watched videos. Last video watched is on top
  • Your most watched video: Sorted by the way how often you a single video watched. Most watched on top.
  • Most popular video you watched: Sorted by the views of the video. More popular on top.

The currently available statistics are:
  • Total Length: Total watch-time of the videos
  • Daytime Views: Day split into hours and the procedural amount of videos you have watched in this hour.
  • by YouTube user: Authors from the videos at the current search. You can click at the video count to only display videos from this user at the right-side video list.

Video List
List of videos, depending on the search query. Sorted by default after last seen videos. The amount of videos displayed per page, can be configured at the preferences page of YouWatch with "How many videos per page". By clicking at "More videos" at the bottom, more videos are appended to the list.

The video representation from YouWatch. All information in one place.

The video representation contains the most information for a video. Videotitle a the top, above the description with tags, at the left the thumbnail from the video with overlayed video duration (also if you have liked the video, a thumb up is displayed). At the right video stats: if the video is available in HD, views, likes/dislikes, comments and the time when the video was published. Even more at the right-side: author and the author thumbnail.

The likes and dislikes are combined, if you hover the symbol of the thumb, you can see the actual numbers. With the combined number, you can easily see if the video has more likes or more dislikes. When the video has more dislikes, the thumb is a red thumb down.

Hovering the video thumbnail will display you the option to ignore this video. If you didn't watch the video completely, there will be a button to resume it. If you are logged in into YouTube, also the button for adding the video to a specific playlist is displayed on thumbnail hover.
Also on hover of the author thumbnail, you can subscribe or unsubscribe from this author.

Search field
For searching at the Watched View, you can use the standard YouTube search field at the top.

The Search View

Concept of the Search View
At the search view, you can search for videos on YouTube. YouWatch is using the YouTube API, which gives you the same video results as if using the normal YouTube search. But with benefits. YouWatch displays more information about the videos, hides watched and ignored videos and has a bunch of options for the search.
The Search View is separated into two sections. The search options and the video list.

Video List
List of videos, depending on the search query. If no search query is entered, trending videos will be displayed. You can filter and order the video list by the search options on the left side. The representation of the videos is alike the one in the Watched View. But additional, when hovering the video thumbnail, you have the option to mark the video as watched.

The Subscription View

Concept of the Subscriptions View
At the Subscription View you can see the newest uploaded videos by YouTube users, new videos in playlists and newly favored videos by YouTube users. All you need is to go to the preferences of YouWatch, check at "Enable subscriptions" and maybe import your YouTube Subscriptions into YouWatch with "Import subscriptions from your YouTube account". YouWatch than checks every hour for new videos (You can change the time interval in the options) This can maybe slow down a bit your browser (and computer) because of heavy database actions. You can disable "Enable update of old videos" for speeding up the check. When you are at the subscription page while YouWatch starts to load the Subscription, an "Loading..." hint is displayed and disappears if all is finished. Also reloads your Subscription View.
The Subscription View is separated into two sections. The subscription names and the video list.

Subscription names & playlists & favorites
Holds a list of your Subscriptions. If the YouTube user or playlist has new videos or favorited one, a little red dot with a number in it is displayed. The number represents the amount of videos which are new. If you click a user name/playlist, only (new) videos from this user/playlist would be displayed at the video list. You can also hide Subscriptions with no new videos, if your subscription list is too long. You can do that by checking "Hide Subscriptions with no new videos" in the Options.

Video List
The amount of videos displayed per page at the Subscription View can be changed by "Amount of days videos should be displayed at the subscription page" in the preferences of YouWatch.
The representation of the videos is the same as in the Search View.

Subscribe to users or playlists
To users, you can subscribe at the watch page of YouTube, near the original YouTube subscribe Button, YouWatch places his own. Also at the channel pages of users and playlists a subscription button is displayed. You can also subscribe to users at the options page. You can only subscribe to playlists at the corresponding YouTube playlist page.

Favorites from a YouTube user
If you want to subscribe to the favored videos of a YouTube user, you must go to his channel page, click on the playlists link and search for the playlist with the name "Favorited Videos" (may be localized)

Filtering Videos

Filtering the result from the YouTube search. Display videos watched on this page.

Social Stats
Social stats? Whats that.

In short, with YouWatch you can now compete against other YouWatch users in battles like:
  • Do I watch more videos per day than the others?
  • When I am starting watching videos, do I also watch more than one video in a row? How about others, do they watch videos in a row?
  • How is my video watching depending on weekdays? Do I watch more videos at the weekend?
  • And at what hours do I look videos? More in the evening or night, or in the mornings or through the day?
  • And how good I am in watching videos through? Do I watch them through or give up in the middle?

These and more questions can be answered in the social stats, and in a competive way, against the community. You can find the social stats as the 4th Link in the navigation, labeled "Social".

How do YouWatch gets the data?
