Backlogged?? Not anymore!

I have a backlog of lunches to fill.
However, I'm swamped at the moment and have decided to give myself a present.
I'll waive myself of the backlog!
Can he do that??!!

Of course...everybody knows that you get presents on birthdays! :hat:

Have a good one, folks!

lunch (11/17) »
  • Teriyaki beef (11/16)
  • sausage pepperoni pizza (11/14)
  • roasted vegetables (11/16)
  • Wow brand Aloe Drink with honey
Late lunch post again, sorry. Yesterday's lunch was a mish mash of leftovers. The teriyaki beef was actually the meat from Teriyaki beef burger (we got take-out from Soon's Kalbi the previous night) -- a bit on the sweet side eating the beef by itself. The pizza was from a lender that came by the office on Monday; I only ate the toppings. The roasted vegetables were from Bucca di Beppo, and consisted of carrots, yellow squash, onions, and string beans; they were brought in by USAFunds on Wednesday. No fancy stuff yesterday.

The lunch drink:
Aloe Honey Drink
(蘆薈蜜)
Yep, it's another aloe drink. Again, it has aloe pulp bits inside, although not as plentiful as the Pokka brand. This version has added honey, giving it a much sweeter taste. To me, this drink has too much focus on the honey. Anyway, it's a product of Taiwan, but the Aloe proudly labeled as from Thailand. Is aloe a huge crop there?

Oh yeah, added some Chinese dictionaries (Chinese Language, ZhongWen) to my web resources links. Useful in deciphering some characters on the can.

lunch (11/14) »
  • Chicken Portabello with Spinach orzo pasta
  • Deep Fried Calamari
  • Warm Chocolate Cake

As I mentioned in yesterday's haiku, I had the day off. After the DMV, Sharon and I went to Ala Moana to try out the newly opened Romano's Macaroni Grill. It's an Italian restaurant chain with a feel much like that of The Cheesecake Factory. We wanted to try lunch there on Sunday, but the wait was 50-60 minutes. It was only about 5-10 yesterday, as we had arrived around 11, before the lunchtime crowd.

The waitstaff were trained with a canned introduction that included writing their name on the disposable "table cloths" and preparing the olive dipping oil for a great focaccia bread. We got our appetizer of deep fried calamari promptly. It was perfectly battered and fried for my taste, as it still retained a nice crunch. It came with two dips: a zesty tomato sauce, and a creamy pesto dip. Sharon thought the calamari itself was bland, which was unfortunate, as she didn't really care for the sauces. Our entrees also came in good time. I had the Chicken Portobello served with a spinach orzo pasta, and Sharon had the Boursin Filet (medium) with butternut squash and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken was okay -- flavor was good, but the meat was a bit dry. What I really enjoyed was the orzo pasta. It was colorful and flavorful. Sharon was almost full by the time her meal arrived, but still fully enjoyed the well-done sides of the steak. So far, so good...?

The only thing bad to say was that as the lunch crowd came in, it became very evident that the Macaroni Grill doesn't have sufficient staffing. Our friendly and helpful server's attention became woefully absent from our table. We were ignored long enough that we were scanning for our server, so that we may proceed onto dessert. Eventually, the server did come around (he looked frazzled, with perspiration visible on his face), and we ordered a Smothered Chocolate Cake to go.

Aside from the dearth in service at the end, everything else was good. I'd recommend the Macaroni Grill, provided that you go at non-busy periods to avoid the huge waits to be seated, and to be served.

  • Boursin Filet with buttersquash and garlic mash potatoes (11/14)
  • homemade salad (11/13)
  • Asian pear
  • Pokka AloeV + white grape juice

For today's lunch, I brought Sharon's leftover steak. Luckily, Sharon ordered the steak medium, since after reheating, it came out PERFECT. The flavor was distinctive, with the Boursin cheese smothered on top giving a heavy, smoky aroma. The meat was pink-but-not-bloody, still retaining much of the juices. And to top it off, the garlic mashed potatoes were the perfect complement. Yum!

Two great lunches in a row, yay!

  • Vermont brand Japanese Curry カレー
  • Asian Pear

Ha ha! I'm late yet again. At least today's lunch post is still done today. For Wednesday, I had leftover Crispy skin chicken from Monday night. I forgot to mention it in Tuesday's post, but I had also picked up Crispy Chicken (Crispy Skin Chicken?) from Wah Kung along with the jook. Upon nuking the chicken, it smelled just like KFC, although the taste was still distinctively different.

Today's lunch was Curry. Remember the first time that I made curry? Well, today's curry was awesome! I didn't cook it. Sharon insisted on doing the cooking last night as she was home all day -- but that's because she is ill! :irked: Although I couldn't pursuade her to let me cook, I got to cube the beef. She couldn't refute that a sick person shouldn't be touching raw meat. So, the curry came out great: , although it was a bit salty today (didn't cook enough rice for lunch). :left:

The treat for today is Asian pear: prepared courtesy of my wife

ack...gotta go!

bad trend

lunch (11/07) »
  • stir fried roast pork (11/04)
  • baby carrots
  • Pokka Carrot Juice
I made the roast pork! Sharon got a few pieces from Daiei and it was a tiny bit porky -- hmm, really need to get Chinese style roast pork from a normal roast meat vendor. I ended up stir-frying it with a lot of green onions and flavoring with oyster sauce. Surprisingly, it came out pretty good. The only thing "wrong" was that I overcooked it...but the way I look at it, the pork became a different dish...one with much more crispiness to the meat and skin. Hey, the pork was originally cut into small bits for a different dish, so I made do with what I had.

Anyway, notice a trend lately? A late post last week, plus a bare-bones post, now another late post this week. Could offer up an excuse, but I just need to get back on the ball.

lunch (wed 11/02)»
  • Meat Jun
  • persimmon
  • Jell-o sugar free pudding snack
  • Pokka aloeV + white grape juice

I'm late. This post was supposed to be for yesterday, but too many things came up. Didn't even get a chance to blog when I got home either, as I got too tired after watching television with my wife.

It's interesting just how fragile memory is. While doing this belated lunchtime post, I noticed that I couldn't fully remember what I had for lunch. That's almost 24-hours ago. If I don't actively commit something to memory, or if it didn't have any special experience tied with it, then it'll be difficult to remember. Maybe the brain is culling "useless" information to ensure higher priority items are retained?

Anyway, lunch was good. Sharon picked up meat jun from Soon's Kalbi Drive-in Tuesday night and I brought the leftovers for lunch. It's been a while since I had their meat jun, and I must say that they have one of the best. The persimmons were from Costco (came in a tray of 8 or so), which Sharon skinned and cut up for me in the morning. The Jell-o pudding -- I only remembered that it was the chocolate pudding with a layer of vanilla in the middle. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what brand it was and had to look in my trash can (janitor didn't come yet). I'm also unsure of whether or not I also brought baby carrots that day. I usually have them daily, but was I lazy the night before and didn't pack them? Did I opt for persimmons instead? Ugh.

Oh yeah, I had a treat: halloween cookie
It's a jack-o-lantern cookie that Sharon got from work on Halloween. Light cinnamon & ginger taste. It looked better than what my phone's camera captured, as it was still crunch crispy fresh? (whatever the word for "not-soggy but not hard to the point of being crunchy, yet not 'hard' as that itself has a bad connotation for a cookie")

edit: don't know why, but there were 3 copies of this post. strange.
