Chemical Formulae PLUS!
Chemistry
5. Fossil Fuels
Characteristics\Fuels
Coal
Petroleum and natural gas
Needs
Plants lived 100,000,000 yrs ago
Plants & Animals lived 100,000,000 yrs ago
Buried location
Earth crust
Beneath sand and mud
Formation
High temperature and pressure
High temperature, pressure and assisted by bacterial action
How long will world's fuel resources last?
- Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy resources. Once burnt, they are lost. They have taken hundreds of millions years to form and cannot be regenerated in a short period of time
- There is a limit within which our fuel resources will be used up. Hence conservation is important.
