Cisco makes a great call

Cisco recently made a great call. They announced that they're making their corporate website mobile friendly.

They've elegantly avoided to fall into the trap of tailoring the site for one browser platform. Rather, they have announced that all the major mobile browsers are welcome. That's great news.

Furthermore, note how Cisco was politically correct when listing the major browsers:

Furthermore, the mobile site supports a majority of handheld and cellular Web browsers, including: AvantGo, Blackberry, GoodAccess, Intellisync, NetFront, Opera, PalmOne, Symbian, and Windows Mobile. This allows Cisco content to reach the largest number of mobile workers and devices.

But the BIG clue is that Cisco simply upgraded the code on its site so that it serves mobile-friendly content when non-PC browsers hits its servers. They didn't create a whole new page (e.g. cisco.com/mobile or even worse, cisco.mobi) which would have required users to type in a different URL than they would normally do.

Well done, Cisco.

It's a great news. Other companies should repeat this example wink
