I have a Brompton!

, ,

This post sort of continues on from my last post. My Brompton has arrived. I put some photos of it in a gallery on my photos page. I've had a few goes on it around where I live and it is surprisingly comfortable. You would think that it would be unstable with the small wheels, but after a few rides I was able to get my balance. Tomorrow I'll ride it to the Farmers Market to see what its like on proper roads. I'll have to take it up a short stretch of the Royal Mile over cobbles which should be fun. Anyway, I want to get back to playing with it! I'll post some more when I have ridden it a bit.

Life is Great

Everything seems to be clicking into place now. I called my future university to see if they had sorted out my accomodation application yet, and I was told that I had been assigned an en-suite room in my first choice Hall of Residence. I had worried about whether I would get the Hall I wanted, so it is a relief to know that I will only be a two minute walk from the lecture theatre.

I'm also starting a placement with the Scottish Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport in August, and I think that all the arrangements have at last been sorted out. It'll make a change working for Labour. I'll have to take off my Scottish Green Party badge!

The other exciting thing happening soon is the arrival of my new Brompton folding bicycle. Seven-hundred pounds (£) worth of hand-built commuter transport. I saw one in Bristol at Fresh & Wild (an organic supermarket), and I thought how useful it would be to have a bike that could be taken into shops, or on busses and trains, so after realising that I somehow (don't ask me how!) had £700 spare, I bought it. It took ages to buy, as each bike is different, with a unique specification. There's a sixteen week waiting list for custom-builds from the factory in London, but fortunately the shop had ordered several a few months ago, and one of them had exactly the right specification. As soon as I get it, I'll put up a couple of photos.
