Dybbøl

Images: 11

One of the most important battles in Danish history was fought at a village named Dybbøl in southern Jutland in 1864. Denmark lost, and consequently became a much smaller country. In 1920 some of the lost land was voted back to Denmark in a plebiscite.

Children-related items found at Trapholt Museum for arts and design.

Trapholt

Images: 9

Trapholt is a museum of art on the north bank of Kolding fjord. There are some old buildings and some new ones. And a gorgeous view over the water.

Walking in beauty for 30 years

Images: 3

The design of these shoes is about 30 years old. I bought my first pair when the model was quite new, and I just bought my newest pair. The fact that those shoes were shaped for human feet and not to accommodate imbecile fashions, is a main reason why I still walk in a way that is commented favourably by others.

The tree of survival

, , , , , , , , ,

I showed someone an earlier photo of this tree. She asked me if it is "The Tree of Life". Perhaps not quite, but rather a more specialized version: the tree of survival.

Mounting a tower

Images: 31

I entered the tower of Koldinghus and walked to its roof.

A Danish pyramid

Images: 9

A pyramid that was built in 1999 for health purposes. The business side of the project didn't work. I believe that it is used for offices now.

Ribe

Images: 15

Ribe in the marshes on the west coast of Jutland is Denmark's oldest town. The skyline is totally dominated by the cathedral.

Waiting in vain

Images: 4

The statue of Dagmar (Danish queen 1205-1212) waiting in vain for the king to return from war before she dies. She stands where Riberhus, the royal castle in Ribe, used to be.

Weeping European Beech

Images: 8

I had never seen a tree have branches like this. When we came close to the tree, we were very surprised to see that it was a beech. I have done some research and found out that its name actually is the one that I now use in the title.

Fire

Images: 5

Stages of a fire. Put into it whatever symbolism you like.

More spring

Images: 26

I took a walk west of Kolding and took some spring pictures in the area where the motorway to the south crosses the stream.

Spring 2007

Images: 41

Did I remeber to say that I love trees?

Living on the edge

Some trees live, quite literally, on the edge.
