Walk in Beauty

Musings of a word-shy Jutlander

"Who are you, really?"

The other day I received, through a mutual friend, a greeting from the only person that I remember ever having asked the question in this completely generic form.

Funnily, I do not know if he was really interested in getting to know the truth.

On one hand he is an intelligent and gifted person with a significant amount of multidimensionality. He is also a warmhearted, spontaneous person whose genuine fondness for me cannot be questioned. And he is as haunted by demons as I am. So he does have at least some of the conditions for seeing me as I really am.

On the other hand he is in many ways a person who seeks protection in conventionality. So he may just have been wanting some banal factual information.

The huge majority of people who show some degree of curiosity about me, have absolutely no wish to know who I really am. Instead they want to be confirmed in their decision to put me in some convenient category.
