Two women

One of the most miraculously beautiful incidents I have ever had the good luck of witnessing was my old, seriously ill mother lying in a hospital bed, a young nurse bending over her to arrange the pillow better, my mother lifting her hand and stroking the smooth cheek above her head and the young woman immediately returning the caress.

Eyes

What do I see in those eyes? I see his mother. (Whose eyes I knew so well at that time.) I see her for the obvious reason that she is his mother and then because she took the picture and is the one that he was looking at.

But actually I see more of myself. Not sure why. Perhaps because of the colour. (His mother's eyes are greenbrowngrey.) Or because I also see my own mother. It is very much her eyes.

Soria Moria? East of the sun and west of the moon?

What is Soria Moria, the place where I - in my profile - claim to live? According to one of those Norwegian fairytales collected by Asbjørnsen and Moe it is a fairy castle. But how does it look?

And "east of the sun and west of the moon" is the place where another fairy castle in a Norwegian fairytale is situated.

What has that got to do with me? I'm not Norwegian.

No, but Norwegian and Danish culture are closely related and Norway has always had a place in my heart. And when I wanted to choose a place that was not geographical but spiritual, those two were the best that I could think of.
