This is about who is the best beginner on diamond and pearl in different ways. Tip 1: piplup is good at some of the gyms but especially the early ones. Turtwig is good against the elite four. With Chimchar - unlike if you choose Piplup (my personal favourite) -if it's not a high enough level you will have trouble with the 2nd gym (the grass gym). Chimchar at eg. level 24 or 25 will be strong at the grass gym but weaker at others. If you mainly focus on your beginners, for the gyms, piplup is easy mode, turtwig is normal mode and chimchar is hard mode. Tip 2: now for the types. Your rival always pick the starter pokemon with an advantage over yours. Turtwig is a grass and ground type, Chimchar is fire and fighting and Piplup is water and steel. But they mainly get their second type at their last stage of evolution. Your choice depends on your taste.
