Ubuntu linux and CrossOver


If you don't know what CrossOver is, Here it is in a few words: CodeWeavers' CrossOver Linux is a software framework that emulates the Microsoft Windows 98 and 2000 application programming interfaces (APIs) on GNU/Linux. It was originally designed to bring Microsoft Office and Intuit Quicken to GNU/Linux, but many more programs have been tested and are known to work to some degree.
The purpose of this tutorial is to find out how well some of the applications supported by CrossOver work under Ubuntu 8.4

First make sure your Ubuntu OS is fully updated, if you don't have crossover you can get a copy fromhere
after the download is done double click the file to install it

after the installer is done go to >Applications >CrossOver >Install windows software

you should see the following screen with some of the software supported scroll down to Quicktime 7 and click next

now you will see the bottle where the software is going to be install






Quicktime HD player did not work for me I got an error message something about the file not being compatible.

INTERNET EXPLORER AND WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9
If you install windows media player 9 it will automatically install Internet Explorer 6 and Internet tools

scroll down to media player 9 and click next

the installation will start

click yes to continue the install

click yes again

Internet Explorer 6 works good but Windows Media Player has problems finding the music files even when I pointed to the right folder, I was able to transfer mp3 but media player said unable to find file path to bad it didn't work for me I guess I'll keep Amarok-nightly

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003

click next

next select where the install office 2003 files are in my case I selected other installer file because I had Office 2003 store in a USB

then the installation will start

next enter the serial number

enter your name




finally the installation in progress

Microsoft office 2003 was successfully installed

now go to > Applications > Windows Applications > Microsoft Office

I was surprised to see Microsoft Office performed as well as it did.(I will test further)

Microsoft Outlook

I try Apples's Safari just to see what would happen

I got all the way through with the installation but then after it started

I wasn't able to do anything, the screen went black
