Opera Unite

Welcome to the Opera Unite Blog

, ,

Hey everyone. It has been less than a week since the labs introduction of Opera Unite and we are very excited about all the attention and feedback we have received.

Although we see Opera Unite as part of the browser, we still wanted to create a more direct way to get in touch with Unite services users and developers. As such, the goal of this blog is to share news about developments from both inside of Opera and you in the community.

We will make some follow-up posts later this week addressing some of the feedback we have received already. But please check below some quick news and links from the last week:

  • Just a few hours after launch, DileSoft submitted the Fridge Arial service with Cyrillic support.
  • On the same day, Slava created http://unitehowto.com/ and has been updating daily since. He is taking a short break after poking at too much stuff in the labs build (we are looking into DSK-256646).
  • Our own Lachlan Hunt posted a great article about setting up custom domains for Opera Unite
  • Both Lawrence and Haavard were quick to respond to some initial misconceptions after launch. Stay tuned for more on this.

As always with Opera, please let us know what you think in the comments or join the community discussion on the Opera Unite services forum. And don't forget to visit the Opera Desktop Team blog for more desktop related news.

Use your own domain names (and more ..)

great! looking forward to new posts on this blog. unite seems promising, I love it so far, even if it's not too reliable at the moment. but still very impressive for the first release.

Unite has really big potential, but I REALLY need https for the service I'm planing. (I would suggest that this would be routed through the proxy so you don't get problems with the certificates).
And Unite should try to restart itself when a problem (e.g. me going into standby) occurs.

Oh, and I really think it is time that Opera implements the local (sql searchable) storage...

Tamil once again manages to post the first comment in the first post of a new blog. LOL. Amazing.

Anyway, I am eagerly waiting for more Unite services.

Opera Unite Media Player uses Sound Manager 2 player that requires Flash 8+, but unfortunately Wii browser has only version 7. XSPF Web Music Player may be considered to use instead.

Tamil has all the firsts or something? Amazing, man smile

And this is good, a central place for Unite news and other stuff.

Oh dear. Now I'm in trouble. Dude, Navjot was my editor! blame him.

Seriously, we'll make it up to you.

@FataL, thanks for the info.

@bhsand, DSK-256646 is a bug report Slava submitted.

So what's a good IDE to develop widgets / unite services in? Should be able to list/jump to functions and objects, find references, follow method calls etc. I haven't found an IDE that supports this with Javascript.

i'm getting a fair few 'cookies arent on' errors when trying to connect to my services using opera, IE8 and FF3. not everytime, but more than enough to be annoying. cookies are on.
