Opera Unite

Opera Unite gets its own branch of builds

,

With the Opera 10 final release coming close, we have decided to push Opera Unite into it's own branch of snapshot builds. Opera Unite will be released in a subsequent 10.10 build after the release of Opera 10. Again, this is because we're polishing Opera Unite and adding more features and more services. So please keep that feedback coming smile

If you download and install the latest Opera 10.10 build (which includes Opera Unite), these will be auto updated with the latest snapshots whenever they go public. The links to latest builds will still be available in the sidebar in this bar.

Instead of having two builds, two versions every time, instead of making more confusion, if I were to decide how to plan the naming of the new Opera, it would be just Opera 10.0 point, and inside, where the Unite part is coming in, it would be Unite Alpha Version (or Beta Version).

I'm not for the idea of having two parallel versions (Opera 10.0 and Opera 10.10) until the Unite part comes out from the alpha/beta stages. That's my point of view.

So that's why you're already on 10.1. You were saving Unite until after Opera 10 is released. I was kind of feeling Opera 10 could benefit from having such a revolutionary feature at launch. A browser reaching version 10 is no small event.

I am guessing so they can fixed bug in Unite so it will be more stable

Navjot Paweranavjotpawera Saturday, August 22, 2009 4:30:15 PM

@punkesito: Changelog at the Desktop Blog as usual - http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2009/08/21/another-unite-round

@kubm: Links updated now smile

@random414: Valid point, but we have to be fair to the other features which have been tested in the previous Beta's (such as Turbo, new skins, new speed dial etc) wink

@drlaunch: Couldn't agree more, we're just working towards delivering a stable and quality product for our users smile

Tried Opera Unite for the first time. Some minor glitches I noticed:

The Fridge has no scrollbar, but it can be scrolled fine in Opera. Not in any other browsers I tried though.

In the Lounge, the contents of the "Send this URL to invite your friends" can be deleted. This should not be possible.

Also, when adding a note to the fridge of someone who is in a different time zone to the east of you, the note will say that it was (will be?) posted in the future! Like "in 5 hours".

I can't access to Media Player, Stream Media or OpenId admin pages.

The progress bar says it's loading, but it's stuck at zero and all stays white.

Fridge and File Sharing works.

Do you need more info ? which ?

thanks !

updated to 10. Lost operaunite. I didn't have to spend a lot of time setting up Unite but now I can't start it. Opera has a terrible maze of connections between it's (albeit free) products. It's quite a pain. And Unite could be very useful.

Charles SchlossChas4 Friday, September 25, 2009 8:36:51 PM

rmreddicks Opera Unite will be included in later version of Opera 10

With the Opera 10 final release coming close, we have decided to push Opera Unite into it's own branch of snapshot builds. Opera Unite will be released in a subsequent 10.10 build after the release of Opera 10.
