Opera Unite services get rechristened to applications
By Navjot Pawera. Tuesday, 22. September 2009, 22:29:59
Along with fixing up and prepping Opera Unite to get ready for the next release, we put in time for usability testing and trying to make things simpler. As a result, we are going to make some changes, but we will try to make them gradual and get them out in phases.
One important change that we made public this week was that we will now refer to our services as Opera Unite applications. If you download the latest snapshot from the links in the sidebar, you can check out the first snapshot with this revision. We will update the websites and theservice application repository as the snapshots become more stable.
What does this mean for developers? Use the .ua extenstion on your applications and serve it with the MIME type application/x-opera-uniteapplication. We will keep you updated on any relevant information.
What do you think? Does this make more sense to you as an Opera Unite user? Will it make it easier for your friend who visits your Media Player application? Let us know
ps - make sure you keep those Sonars running

@motenay: Are you referring to something like this - http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/custom-domains-opera-unite/ ?

Ideas are
• Paint board (draw with another person at the same time, you share the canvas (two mouse cursors would be used))
• Arcade (people could create games and upload them and they could be added to the arcade library)
• Jukebox http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=288525&t=1254102668&page=1#comment3094011
• Bittorrent Client
• Shop (Idea posted by an employee in this blog) (Could be used for other things too)
• Screening room (Idea posted by an employee in this blog)
• Video Chat

So in this condition (behind a NAT/router or anything connected outside through a local proxy), is it possible to make the service work properly anyway?

Do to the Opera Desktop Team and download the latest snapshot. See if that helps.

thanks for tip, but 1810 is the latest snapshot. I've used Opera Unite on my computer earlier (May or June I think) and it worked then.

I upgraded Opera to 1830, but it's still the same. I can also add that the same happens under Linux.
