US tour arrives in SoCal

, , , ,

The second week of the University tour in California is well under way. This week we are in Southern California or SoCal as the locals say. I arrived in LA after the long drive from San Francisco on Sunday. LA is very cool and is like Disneyland for adults. There is so much to do and see, and a lot of the sights are very familiar to me as they are present in a lot of Hollywood movies and TV shows.

As I am writing this blog the US Presidential race is under way and the polls have almost all closed. We should know who is the new “leader of the free world” in a few hours. It's a pretty exciting time to be in the US as a Canadian. Enough with the politics and on with the tour! :headbang:

The cast of characters remains pretty much the same for this leg of the tour. Phillip, Lawrence and I are still on tour but Anne Van Kesteren has left as he will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in the next few days:yes:. Taking his place as on the tour is Henny Swan, one of Opera's awesome (and newest) Web evangelists. Also, Thomas Ford will be joining us for the LA seminars. Thomas is one of the PR guys here in the US and is currently living in LA.

Yesterday we held a seminar the University of California, Irvine. As we drove to Irvine, Henny and I had the same observation of the city and campus: the town is perfectly groomed. The trees look like they were planted the day before we arrived, the lawns are perfectly mowed and all the buildings look brand new. The seminar was very interesting, as Henny discussed Web accessibility which I personally did not know too much about. The seminar was followed by a great meet-up at the Anthill Pub located on campus. The name Anthill Pub comes from the school's mascot, the Anteater . After some nice discussions with Opera fans over a few beers, we headed back to our hotel in Hollywood. There were no seminars today as it was election day but we are back at it tomorrow as we visit UCLA. :hat:

Stay tuned...
